Rep. James Clyburn: Dems ‘will be running’ on ObamaCare in 2014
The Hill ^ | 08/12/2013 | Keith Laing

Posted on 08/12/2013 9:00:21 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

The House assistant Democratic leader said on Sunday that his party will campaign on President Obama’s controversial healthcare law in 2014.

“We will be running on ObamaCare in 2014,” Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.) said during an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“In fact, we set it up to run on it in 2014,” he continued. “We fully expect to run on it; we expect to win on it. The American people will be the winner.” Clyburn noted that major provisions of the law are expected to go into effect on Oct. 1 and Jan. 1, 2014, leaving Democrats little choice but to make healthcare a part of their midterm election campaigns.

The Obama administration announced last month that they were delaying a mandate for companies that employ more than 50 people to offer healthcare until next year, which Republican critics suggested was a sign of trouble for the law.

Clyburn said he was not worried about potential glitches to the law making it harder to elect Democrats to Congress.

“If you go back to the founding of the country, every time we do something big, we have to go back and fix it,” he said. “We had to fix Social Security; we had to fix Medicare; and we’re going to have to fix ObamaCare because people change, things change, needs change.”

Clyburn said the healthcare law would become more popular in 10 years, drawing parallels to the early years of Social Security and Medicare.

“We’re not going to throw out the baby with the bathwater,” Clyburn said of Republican efforts to repeal the law.

“A lot of people do not understand the tax benefits that can come along with this, and when they do understand, it becomes very popular,” he said.

I have mixed emotions on this.
Because I believed there was no way that Baraq would get re-elected with $4 gas, 8% unemployment, and surging food prices.
So my experience now tells me the MSM may be able to convince the populace that Obamacare is awesome....

Every poll tells you this fool is doubling down on dumb. They cheated in 2012. Maybe this fool knows they can cheat to win again.

Personally I don’t think it was cheating as much as buying votes with entitlements.

And until the markets choke on the endless supply of Baraqqi/Bernanke/Lew minibucks being created, nothing will likely change.

At some point, the rubber will meet the road. The patient will need some healthcare service, or will need an appointment with their doctor; a doctor or healthcare provider will need to get paid; a pharmacy will have to fill a prescription, or a policy owner will have to pay a premium.

They won't be able to hide this forever. When the rubber meets the road and the transactions can't be met because there ARE no doctors, or money to pay doctors, or when prescriptions can't be filled, or when patients are dying because they didn't get a routine procedure, surely the bloom will come off this rose.

Most of us believed there was no way that Baraq would get re-elected with $4 gas, 8% unemployment, surging food prices...and the shellacking Dems got in 2010 w/ rising debt, etc. ......Dems control of the message means the MSM may be able to convince the populace that Obamacare is awesome.

This IS scary---Dems running on--not away from---the O'CARE atrocity.

Means they know they have nothing to worry about in 2014.

They got the votes tied up as we type---via voter fraud, social media, MSM sucking-up, and so on.

The fix is in.

Liz, 2014 is not a national election, it is state by state and district by district without Obama on the ballot. Republicans will hold the house and take a bare majority in the senate because the millions of votes from inner cities that put Obama over the top will be depressed.

Sigh! Journalism is so dead. Why didn’t the interviewer ask Clyburn that if the healthcare law is so awesome, why did Obama personally exempt congress from the law? Wouldn’t members of congress and their staff want to feel the ‘benefits’ of this great law???

In certain districts, they CAN run on Obamacare, because the constituents in those districts will actually be getting free medical insurance at the cost of others.

This makes sense...

The AP (7/25, Johnson) reports that “in the coming months,” the campaign to sell the Affordable Care Act to the American people will begin in full force. According to the article, the law’s “success may hinge” on the effectiveness of the advertising, which “won’t come cheap.” An AP analysis of Federal and state data estimates that the “total amount to be spent nationally on publicity, marketing and advertising will be at least $684 million.”

So...Obama is going to spend $684M of OUR tax dollars touting how great this pig is...and all his Democrat minions will add their millions to it, slamming republicans in the process, and we'll have a billion dollar ad campaign for Obamacare (against republicans) mostly paid for with YOUR (OUR) money. Genius. The low information idiots will eat this up.

they did it all last time- it is harder to make more votes but it is easy to subtract them

I can’t understand why my local district showed fewer votes cast than last presidential election, when I saw lines bigger than I had ever seen before

And first thing in the morning a lady i never saw in town before (VERY small town) came in to vote- she put her ballot in, and for no reason YANKED it out half way. This jammed the machine and we all had to put our ballots in the ‘emergency box’

I also noticed that they gave out a number when I arrived and put it on my name AND on my ballot- I did not put two and two together on that until I got out the door.

And how many paid Obamacare Navigators will there be in your state?

Will they be signing people up, or will they be campaigning for the D’s during the election?

“In its latest word on how the system should work, CMS said a client-level navigator/caseworker should be paid about $20 per hour, while the time of a mid-level project leader will be about $29 per hour. Senior-level executives will earn $48 per hour. “

$54,000,000 in Nationwide campaign volunteers is a big leg up. At $30/hr that’s 1,800,000 volunteer hours. They are being hired part time, so they can put that much time into the elections.

“By August 15, the Obama administration is expected to spend $54 million of our tax dollars to hire community organizers to push this law on the American people”

Clyburn must be talking for himself. In his District, he could get reelected if he was dead. Brave talk for a guy who is a lock. Don’t think those Democrats in Red States will be doing that.

not meant to be personal but trusting that the US national election outcomes are based on how the people actually voted is, if I may say so, foolish. The reason some of these communist liberal democrats are now surfacing to say they support all of the policies the obozo hussein has signed into law that kills the basic beliefs of constitutional law and justice is because they know that vote fraud rules the day. Conclusion: expect things to get much worse because the liberals are in power and they aren’t going anywhere unless or until the people of this country take matters into their own hands and this government is preparing for exactly that to happen, daring us to fight back if you will.

You forgot to factor in the influx of illegal immigrants and also how gays and those with AIDS will get ‘a special focus’ so far as healthcare.

“Run James run!”

Clyburn and others who represent districts with a large population of entitlement beneficiaries will run on Obamacare. His constituents don’t pay for the medical care anyway. In fact, Obamacare steers more money to Medicaid which is the program funding their healthcare.

Democrats representing liberal white districts will also run touting Obamacare as a great accomplishment. The elitist white progressives they represent need more federal spending to assuage their guilt feelings about being white and prosperous.

The few Democrats running in truly competitive districts will not talk about Obamacare and will avoid giving a straight answer if asked.

Democrats running in safe Republican districts can run touting Obamacare because they know they won’t win anyway.

Given the above, Clyburn is probably correct. Running on Obamacare is a good thing for Democrats.

I wish that were true, but like almost everything else the Democrats say, it’s a lie. It’s almost guaranteed that any Democrat even remotely in danger of losing will be running away from Obamacare as fast as they can come 2014.

Since implementation of Commune-Style Obama’care’ is a privacy violation to the US Constitution, then an injunction needs to be filed with SCOTUS by the Esteemed Speaker of the House, John “Cave-In” Boehner.

The key to success is to bypass all Administration Bureaus.

Oh wait, I forgot that “Cave-In” Boehner is on vaycay for 5 weeks - - - - !

They didn’t exempt themselves. Words mean things.

What they did was misappropriate federal money in order to subsidize the employees’ Obamacare premiums.

Thanks for the insights. Hope you're right.

In Obama, we're up against a seasoned, practiced conman. I gather some of the Repubs are onto him---could explain slow-walking Imig/reform, and so on.

Obama has win back the House in 2014 and keep the Senate b/c he wants to steamroller the next phase of his horrific agenda.

The Dems cannot risk another 2010---as the scandals against Obama mount.

Cool con artist Obama poses as the "Good Guy"----trying not to "overreach"---separated from the "phony" scandals---appearing as a genial, cool, love-America guy on Leno.

O's con game is to save 2014 for the US, to protect the American people from those "evil Repubs."
