Mystery solved.

The “angel priest” who appeared at the scene of a Missouri car crash, anointed and prayed with the teenage victim, then vanished has been identified as Rev. Patrick Dowling of the Jefferson City Diocese.

A press release provided to FoxNews.com by the diocese said Father Dowling had been travelling Highway 19 between Mass assignments in northern and central Missouri when he arrived near the crash scene Aug. 4.

Father Dowling posted the following comment on an article written in the National Catholic Register about the incident...

I had Mass in Ewing MO as the regular priest was sick. As I was returning, I arrived at the scene. The authorities were redirecting traffic. I waited till it was possible to drive up closer. I parked behind a large vehicle about 150 yards from the scene. I asked the Sheriff’s permission and approached the scene of the accident.

I absolved and anointed Katie, and, at her request, prayed that her leg would not hurt. Then I stepped aside to where some rescue personnel and the pilot were waiting, and prayed the rosary silently. I left when the helicopter was about to take off, and before I got to my car it was on its way to Quincy.

I was amazed at the calmness of the two Highway patrol men. The sergeant was completely in control, amazingly calm. Everybody worked as harmoniously as a Swiss watch despite the critical nature of the scene.

I gave my name to one of the authorities, perhaps to the sergeant of Highway Patrol, explaining that I was returning having celebrated Mass at Ewing. It was the sergeant who, at the Sheriff’s request, gave me Katie’s name as I was leaving, so I could visit her in hospital—I assumed she would be taken to Columbia.

I think there may have been angels there too and, in this context, I congratulate the fire team from New London and Hannibal, the Sheriff/deputies of Ralls County, the Highway Patrol personnel, the helicopter team, the nurses and all who worked so professionally. God has blessed your work. I hope the credit goes where it is due.

IMHO, the term “angel on earth” fits Father Dowling, as well as each one of the rescue workers. Father’s words show that he truly is a class act.

God doesn’t use lesser beings - a priest is more than an angel in the Church’s teaching.

So the Truth truly should set us free - He one-upped the angel story and gave the young lady a sacrament, Anointing of the Sick, to potentially rally her (look it up if curious for the truth about it: http://www.vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/p2s2c2a5.htm
.

A humble and decent man, just like the rescue workers. God works through these just men.

Catholics should be very proud of Fr. Dowling because of his faith and humility.

There ARE angels among us! Just need to open our eyes/hearts that we are aware of them .

Even Jesus was made lower than the angels...There is no lesser a being than a priest...That's a sick religion you got there...

That’s exactly what I was getting ready to do...LOL

How ironic - a mystery involving a priest and his name happens to be Father Dowling when the mystery is solved.

I asked the Sheriff’s permission and approached the scene of the accident.

Too bad the Boston police didn't afford the priests at the scene of the bombings that same courtesy.

God bless Fr. Dowling. What an excellent statement giving credit to the Emergency Crews, and to the Lord!
