State Sen. Lee Bright officially announced his candidacy for U.S. Senate during a teleconference Tuesday.
Bright has been vocal about considering a run against two-term incumbent Sen. Lindsey Graham for months.
I have looked at the record of Sen. Graham, and I feel like it's time for a change, Bright said.
During the conference, Bright touted his voting record during five years in the state senate a voting history he stated has been commended by conservative leadership and organizations. As a U.S. senator, Bright said he would continue to campaign for an individual's rights to own firearms and an anti-abortion agenda. Bright said he would fight against high taxes and a powerful IRS.
I think it's time South Carolinians have someone to represent South Carolina and the conservative values of the state, Bright said.
Bright criticized Graham for his role in creating the immigration reform bill currently in Congress by saying it amounts to amnesty and would create a permanent underclass. He also said the incumbent was taking advice from Democrats on how to win Republican elections.
Bright also accused Graham of community organizing for the Muslim Brotherhood, during his recent trip to Egypt, instead of being at home working on the problems of his constituents.

Please see post #40 and learn how the primary process works in South Carolina.
Thank you for that. I just sent it on its way to my old High School friend who now lives in S.C.
Well now, this is an interesting sidebar found on the same webpage as the article posted at the top of this thread:
A Spartanburg veterinarian, Bill Bledsoe, is launching an independent campaign for the U.S. Senate.
Bledsoe is seeking to run as a petition candidate, though he has garnered only 35 of the necessary 10,000 signatures. I have until June (2014) if it looks like Ill need them, Bledsoe said Tuesday.
Bledsoe said he considers himself a back up to the three candidates who have announced their challenges to Sen. Lindsey Graham Lee Bright, Richard Cash, and Nancy Mace. Bledsoe said he does not want to be a candidate, but wants to present voters with an additional option should Graham win the Republican primary.
Historically, independents win about 1 percent in an election, so Im nothing, Bledsoe said. But I think theres enough angry people out there, I think they might vote independent If Lindsey Graham wins the primary, I really think I could beat him.
Probably not, but can a Muslim?
Open Primaries are insane.
“A religious kook cannot win a general election”

You’re another damn Soros/Hillary/Obama troll that Jim Rob didn’t get rid of the last time he vacuumed FR.
Go screw yourself, prick.
We could really use a veterinarian in the U.S.Senate considering all the horse`s asses in that body.
so perhaps expalin why Mace’s website is running with this Think Progress hitpiece yesterday and today.
Even thinkprogress did not attribute the quote to Lee.....yet you, for some reason......
Don’t know who else might enter the SCGOP primary June 10, 2014.

Mace’s website, and yes, this IS her website, using liberal talking points against Bright.
Fits'news' is (was) co-owned by Nancy Mace and her partner Will Folks. Whether she still owns it or not, she could put an immediate stop to it.
So much for that 'beat Graham, not each other' truce. Stay classy Nancy.
Thank you both for reminding me of fitsnews.com; I had forgotten about it until you reminded me again. This morning, under the SC Politics tab, I found several items of interest to me that I don’t recall having seen in the mainstream SC media.
As for Will Folks’ opinionated writing style, I can handle it. After all, I can weed through lots of scrub brush here on FR to find a pearl now and then. Thanks again.
Good luck with that Nancy.
In 2013, Haley refused to support S.C. Sen. Larry Grooms (R-Berkeley) in his bid for the U.S. Congress because it was rumored Mace was providing him with campaign assistance (she wound up staying out of that race). (from another completely ERRONEOUSLY titled fits'news' blog post ...)
In South Carolina as Republican? Sure they can.
Stay classy resetto!
