Ex-Congressman Apologizes to Family for Misusing Campaign Funds
A judge on Wednesday sentenced former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. to 2½ years in prison for treating his campaign fund like a "personal piggy bank"siphoning off $750,000 over the years to pay for personal items like spa treatments and televisions.
Mr. Jackson's wife, Sandi Jackson, a former Chicago alderman, was sentenced to a year in prison for her role in the scheme.
The former congressman, who had represented a Chicago district for more than a decade, resigned last year amid the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe of his finances. He pleaded guilty earlier this year.
Mr. Jackson broke down several times in admitting wrongdoing to U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson, who is no relation to the defendant. "I misled the American people. I misled the House of Representatives," Mr. Jackson said. "I was wrong and I don't fault anyone."
The lawmaker wept as he talked about the pain he had caused his family, particularly his father, civil-rights leader Rev. Jesse Jackson. "I also want to apologize to my dad and my mother," he said.
Watching from the spectator section of the courtroom, the elder Mr. Jackson shook his head and rubbed his eyes.
"I need to be as far away from everybody for a while as I can be," the younger Mr. Jackson said.

When do we put Daddy in Jail??
All in favor, say "AYE!"
” siphoning off $750,000 over the years to pay for personal items like spa treatments and televisions. “
Musta been one helluva T V....
Most people who steal three quarters of a million diollars get a lot more time than 2.5 years in the country club jail....
Yeah? When is your dad gonna' apologize for the pain he's caused the whole country?
They were both let off lightly and as soon as they are out they’ll both be elected to something.
Oh the irony. you will, dumba$$, you will be. Except your bunk buddy.
“The lawmaker wept as he talked about the pain he had caused his family....”
Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. “ I got caught”
He’ll be back out on the streets before the next MLK day.
“The lawmaker wept as he talked about the pain he had caused his family, particularly his father, civil-rights leader Rev. Jesse Jackson.”
What about all the pain JJ Sr has cause the rest of America? I doubt he was weeping for that!
He’ll do a few months, max, and then be a perfect candidate for reelection in his old district.
That’s an AFFIRMATIVE ACTION SENTENCE. Any white dude would be looking at 10 years plus. That be REVERSED RACISM in my book.
Jesse Robinson ( as in MrO) half brother Noah Robinson is doing life for his involvment with a Chicago black Muslim street gang. Just happens that the controlled the community the 0 organized and represented in state legislature.
Did I mention JJ was close to his half bro until he was arrested. Something to do with funneling millions of dollars of drugs to the east coast and a couple of murders for hire!
What is his wife’s sentence?
I see a presidential pardon in the near future.
So he’ll be out just in time to run for office in 2016? I’m sure this won’t hurt him with his constituents. I mean it’s not like he’s a Republican or something.
Third paragraph down.
Two and a half more years of a free ride on the backs of the taxpayers. Figures. I guess he’ll want his gig in Washington back upon his release in a couple months. He’ll get it too.
That works out to $300,000/year in prison which is an even better no-work gig than being a Congressman!
Chicago Tribune columnist John Kass reacts to the prison times given to Jesse Jackson Jr. and his wife, Sandi for separate felonies involving the misspending of about $750,000 in campaign funds. (Posted on: August 14, 2013)
While in the can he’ll see the light and come out a fake preacher man and eventually take over for his charlatan dad
