I’m not going to argue the efficacy of marijuana in treating seizures. If it helps, it helps. BUT, IF it helps that also disproves the claims of those who want it legalized for recreational use. How many times have we heard that it is ‘harmless’ and has no lasting effects? Well, if it affects the electrical activity of the brain to stop seizures, it AFFECTS THE BRAIN. Anything that can change brain activity is certainly not ‘harmless’. It can’t be both powerful and harmless.
In my experience people have been slowed and dumbed down by smoking weed. The Cheech and Chong depiction is funny because it is based on factual behavior.
And the argument that it is no worse than alcohol-which causes many problems in society-makes me crazy. How is adding MORE impaired people to society a GOOD thing? Does anyone want their airline pilot stoned? How about the driver of your child’s school bus?
Legalize as a medical treatment, by prescription- ok. But legalize for more people to get recreationally stoned-NO.
THC = high
CBD = anti-convulsant
I wish the article had been clearer about the distinction between the two drugs. Yes they come from the same plant but I saw a TV show that said the CBDs don’t reach their peak efficacy (if that’s the right term) until the THC levels have declined significantly past their peak, so it’s quite possible to start with a high-CBD Low-THC herb and separate the components in a centrifuge to concentrate the CBDs further while being able to remove the THC. Makes it safer for the patients to use without the psychotropic effects.
If I’m wrong, I’m sure other FReepers will issue a correction.
