A little girl received a big scare in Reading Tuesday after she was nearly robbed at knife-point.

Don’t send children under 10 to the store. Period. I really mean it. Even if there isn’t a third world robber, terrible things can happen to a young child - even the store owner or someone working in the store can take advantage of a defenseless child.

TO the Skwiat family, welcome to Virginia. Here we are allowed to defend ourselves against the illegal (and some legal) immigrant criminals who have made our major cities so unsafe (as well as with major contributions from the indigenous Sons of Obama - Baltimore, DC, Richmond, Phila., Cleveland, Newark, Bridgeport, Ct., Houston, CHICAGO, Detroit, etc).
Decent people deserve to live a productive life in peace. You can’t do that in parts of Pennsylvania and Maryland.
I was just talking to my mom about this. I’m raising my children in a world where they can’t go play in the woods all day long and check in at lunch and supper. Perversion is now tolerated and accepted instead of shunned and punished. My kids are very good looking. My daughter in particular is gorgeous at two years old. We’re in for a lot of trouble in a few years. My gay neighbor always makes a point to tell me how adorable my son is. Not a word about my daughter ever, just my son. Can I even let him play in the back yard while I do dishes or fold laundry? The few times we are exposed to him I talk about our CCWs and how much recent time we’ve spent at the range. Maybe I’m too paranoid, but that’s a label I’m willing to deal with.
If you don’t want your son to be a statistic you should never, ever allow him outside on his own. And make sure the windows to his room are always secure from the outside.
And consider video surveillance of the side of the house facing the neighbor who’s always making exclamations.
We’re almost done with an addition and remodel, and part of our electrical upgrades was lighting up our house at night like the 4th of July. when baby girl #2 gets here any day now she will be in our room until Christmas. At that point, our son will flop rooms with our daughter, who will get baby sissy as her roomy for the next 18 years or so. One would have to use a really tall ladder to reach my son’s windows, as we have a walkout basement. Window access to the girls’ room would not require a ladder, but it is again lit up and I’m planting more undesirable things there over the next year or so. One window is on the front of the house too. It’s crazy that I have to think of all of these things!
For everyone who is too scared to let their children be outside, unless you live in a neighborhood where crime is rampant, and you see proof that crimes are happening around you, do not impair your child’s life with fear and paranoia.
You can find maps on the internet of every violent and major crime in your area. If they aren’t as common as you thought, stop being afraid. Instead teach your children how to behave and react when violence happens.
Eventually they will find themselves in a bad neighborhood, or in the presence of dangerous people. They *have* to know how to behave, what to do, and how to protect themselves.
Rule of thumb: protecting yourself and your family is almost always better than defending them, because having to defend means that protecting has failed.
