Ga. man faces trial in killing of baby in stroller

BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) — It was a tiny bullet that took the short life of Antonio Santiago.

He had learned to walk, but not yet talk, when he was killed March 21, six weeks after his first birthday. He was strapped in his stroller, out for a walk with his mother a few blocks from their apartment near the Georgia coast, when someone shot the boy between the eyes with a .22-caliber bullet the size of a garden pea.

The teenager charged as the shooter is scheduled to stand trial next week in a courthouse far from the scene of the crime. Because of public outrage and news coverage, a judge has moved 18-year-old De'Marquise Elkins' trial 325 miles away, to the suburbs outside Atlanta.

Jury selection starts Monday at the Cobb County courthouse in Marietta. Superior Court Judge Stephen Kelley has set aside two weeks for the trial.

Elkins faces life in prison if convicted of murder. His youth spared him a possible death sentence. At the time of the shooting he was 17, too young to face capital charges in Georgia.

Police say the motive was as banal as the slaying of a toddler was shocking. Investigators concluded that Antonio was killed during an attempted street robbery as his mother, Sherry West, was strolling home with the child from the post office. West said a gunman demanding cash shot her baby in the face after she told him she had no money.....

"He kept asking, and I just said 'I don't have it,'" West told The Associated Press the day after the slaying. "And he said, 'Do you want me to kill your baby?' And I said, 'No, don't kill my baby!'".........

If Obama had a son, he’d look like De’Marquise.

But this should all be OK since all De’Marquise did was kill a ‘white hispanic’ male. And doing that is a constitution right for sons of Obama.

To add to the intrigue she then tricks the jerk's mother into trying to dispose of the gun??? Some liberal whiner somewhere would buy that—Sharpton would.

Unfortunately, Publius, that KKK lynch-o-rama is precisely what most of today’s media are trying to provoke in my opinion. They want to be there when it happens, so they can gloat and say “I told so!” They want their prejudicial profiles and social justice templettes proven correct beyond dispute.

Listen closely to your tin foil messages. Many people thought at the time that evidence of Saudi involvement was being aggressively overlooked and systematically walked around. Some spoke of evidence showing that Saddam Hussien had financed much of this venture. Tim was said to have a ‘minder’ from the middle east, who was never properly pursued, sorta like Bengazi.

Didn’t Sharpton and jesse allege she shot the baby herself and then blame a random black kid?

What you describe doesnt seem to fit that story.

The passing years have taught me that the US version of ‘ebony/ivory’ idealism was naively unfounded, at best.

It does happen.

My wife’s former best friend, her father just got out of prison for violating parole. He got wasted in Austin, fell down some stairs, and ended up passed out all beat up along the curb. When the cops found him, he claimed he was beaten and robbed by some black kid. He gave a description and they arrested someone. It wasn’t until the investigation went deeper that they realized what was going on and he finally fessed up to it under interrogation. I wish I was joking or making this up. There may even be news reports floating around about it as it happened either last year or the year before.

Regarding the story, I did find it odd that she had a life insurance policy on her child. I have an almost 2 year old child and we never even considered it. I did a poll of friends and family and only one out of 10 had it and they are in more of the upper income bracket (dad is a finacial planner). He told me that most people, especially in the middle to low income, dont have life insurance on their kids. If any, usually dad carries it.

Considering the rest of the evidence, I doubt the mom did it and the perp isnt even claiming she hired or put him up to it which would fit the typical life insurance death scenario.

I know many people who have small policies on their children.

For one thing if your child has health problems it guarantees them the ability to get a policy once they turn 18. Lots of variables of course but the policy is not that unusual, IMO.

There is the Gerber Grow-up Plan that is about $3/month for $5000 in coverage.

The outcome of this trial will give us a barometer reading of the current state of American justice.

Riddle his worthless body with bullets until it’s nothing but red mush. Then toss it into the ocean to feed some sharks. Why waste taxpayer money on this garbage?
