Football Fans Get First Taste Of New Clear Bag Policy

Jets Fans Griped About New Policy

EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. (CBSNew York) – A new league-wide bag policy is in place as the New York Giants kick off their preseason Sunday evening.

Jets fans arriving at MetLife Stadium on Saturday were subjected to the new NFL policy, which was implemented as a result of the Boston Marathon bombings.

In May, the league and all NFL teams agreed on a policy that would restrict the types of bags that fans would be allowed to carry into stadiums.

The policy took effect earlier this month at the Hall of Fame inductions and game. Fans will only be allowed to carry bags, packages, and containers into stadium plaza areas, stadium gates, or queue lines if they meet the following requirements:

Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12″ x 6″ x 12″, or One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar). Small clutch bags, approximately the size of a hand (4.5″ x 6.5″), with or without a handle or strap, may be carried into the stadium along with one of the clear bag options.

On Saturday, many Jets fans came prepared with their clear plastic or vinyl bags.

“Just my cell phone, some cash and my tickets,” football fan Stephanie Shih said.

“Everything that I would normally put in my small bag that I would carry into the stadium is what I put in this bag. But it’s not exactly convenient to carry, obviously,” another woman said.

They’re just using that as an excuse to clamp down on people bringing in their own food and beverages, which they won’t be able to do now.

Agreed. And between the TSA and the NFL, you gotta wonder about the profits being made by the stockholders in the company that makes ziploc bags.

/s off, sorta

You just thought the TSA spent too long on your 16 year old daughter. Just wait until these guys search her pockets. Don’t expect me to spend a dime on airline tickets or NFL tickets anytime soon.

Good question. No extra diapers. No blankets or extra clothing. No toys. No bottles. Here’s to her pooping a lot and it’s really stinky so everyone in the section complains loudly to the management. Sure, a full stadium is a prime target but these new rules are ridiculous. Hope you do sue and have box tickets for life.

Taking a rain jacket is common sense in outdoor stadiums such as Seattle. Are Buffalo/Green Bay outdoors? I pity them in the next snowstorm.

More and more, I shun venues that have anything to do with officialdom of any sort.

Though not like 20 years ago, there are still plenty of places where I can spit on the ground, walk on the grass, pack a knife (gun), no searches, cross between sidewalks, park all day long, etc.

I completely agree; this country has shown it isn’t serious about dealing with Muslim terrorists, but money talks.
