NJ governor signs ban on gay conversion therapy
OneNewsNow.com ^ | 19 Aug 13 | Associated Press

Gov. Chris Christie signed a bill Monday barring licensed therapists from trying to turn gay teenagers straight, making New Jersey the second state to ban so-called conversion therapy, along with California.

The bill passed both houses of the New Jersey Legislature with bipartisan support in June. Assemblyman Tim Eustace, who sponsored the bill and is openly gay, described the therapy as "an insidious form of child abuse."

In a note accompanying the bill, Christie said he believes people are born gay and that homosexuality is not a sin. That view is inconsistent with his Catholic faith, which teaches that homosexual acts are sins. - See more at: http://www.onenewsnow.com/ap/politics/nj-governor-signs-ban-on-gay-conversion-therapy#.UhJxpU7D8eE

Perhaps Christie can point to the chromosomes that cause homosexuality?

So Krispy Kreme has declared homosexuality genetic, eh? This would imply that =>

there is a gay gene.

Which in turn would imply that =>

OBGYNs could identify said gene.

Which in turn would imply that =>

Expectant mothers could choose to kill babies exhibiting said gene

Which in turn would imply that =>

I should be stocking up on popcorn...

Christie has put himself on a par with Governor Jerry Brown of California by signing this legislation which takes us down the wrong path towards less freedom.

He’s gone somewhere he shouldn’t have gone.

There must be a lot of presidential campaign money in signing this legislation????????

There is no sin in being predisposed to a certain cast of mind

Not so sure about that as you. Jesus said a man is guilty of adultery just for looking on a woman with lust. That's pointed right at the mental operation that precedes the act, the inclination of the heart, and Jesus is putting it in the same class as the act itself. Honestly, I think we are too easy on ourselves. God sent Jesus to save us from our sin, but we cannot even acknowledge the true depths of our sin, that it is not measured simply by outward application of the "do no harm" principle, but by confronting the rancid nature of one's innermost soul being in rebellion against God.

BTW, this is a line that must be crossed. In preaching the Gospel we are obligated to preach the whole truth about God, including his righteousness and rejection of sin, even if that puts us at odds with the corrupt laws of our current civil authorities. Only a sinner who knows his own sinfulness and the power of it will see any need to seek out a Savior. No human law has the power or the authority to stop that work from going forward.

“So, Christie is a genetics expert now?.............”

No, but he is trying to be an expert on having THE MEDIA like him.
Remember, a HUGE percentage of today’s mainstream media is GBLT. Hell, it’s a requirement to even get hired in many media outlets now.

Funny how Americans believe in every type of character change or destructive behavior adjustment therapy that exists - smoking, drug addiction, infidelity, weight loss (hello Chris Christie!), alcoholism, sexual addiction, etc...

Yet somehow, people like Christie want to tell us therapy or behavior adjustment for homosexuals is simply impossible and dangerous......

Ban trying to help people with their mental disorder is supposed to be “progressive”?? A special license to buy ammo?

This guy wants to run as a Republican for President?

quote “Christie said he believes people are born gay and that homosexuality is not a sin. That view is inconsistent with his Catholic faith, which teaches that homosexual acts are sins”

there is nothing inconsistent about that statement.

you can believe that someone is born gay
you can also believe that homosexuality is not a sin.

the same as you can believe that someone is born straight, and that being straight is not a sin.

BEING homosexual is no more a sin than being a red blooded man. ACTING on that impulse is the sin, just as acting on your hetrosexual impulses outside of marriage is a sin.

I don't get why people don't get this.

So now the Gov knows what therapy is best for patients? So its only good therapy if it affirms the gay? This is crazy. I’ll NEVER vote for this guy. He’s not conservative and anyone who supports this kind of legislation isn’t either.

See above discussion on thoughts of adultry. Action alone does not define homosexuality. Therapists deal with attitudes and proclivities. There is a homosexual attitude that precedes the act. Why do you not see this?

Catholics whose religion does not go beyond rites and rituals believe themselves equal to God. Christie is convinced he knows better than God what is true and what is false. The Word of God is not a guide for his life. His political motivation is more important.

Sort of like being born a Muslim .... you’re screwed and it’s against Prophet Muckdimuck’s laws, given to him by the Goat God, to convert from being a heathen.

...but can't explain why the NBA player who recently proclaimed himself to be homosexual has an identical-twin brother who's not homosexual.

It could be epigenetic, rather than genetic (Don't ask me to explain the science).

Maybe what Christie meant was that he thinks sexual orientation is not a conscious choice or decision, but something the individual doesn't have much control over (I doubt he's any more up on the actual science than I am, though).
