I really wish the rule was both parents MUST be born in the United States and the individual must be born in the United States.

This is a wish that the Founding Fathers had removed any discretion from We the People. It is a wish that there was a rule that would prevent us from electing a Patriot who just happened to be born on Canadian soil, even though he was raised in America by parents who love the United States.

The better test is: Is the man (or woman) a Patriot? Will he (or she) be a good leader? Is he (or she) actually committed to the interests of the nation and people of the United States?

There are plenty of US-born, citizen-parent politicians who won't hesitate to sell us down the river. If I start naming names, we'll be here all night.

“So a person born outside of the country to a service member should never be allowed to be president?”

Sure, that’s one exception.

Cruz’s father only became an American citizen in 2005. He never was a serviceman.

So how does this exception apply to Cruz?

Just for the record, Santorum-Bachman won’t happen....ever.

Their day is done.

“The better test is: Is the man (or woman) a Patriot? Will he (or she) be a good leader? Is he (or she) actually committed to the interests of the nation and people of the United States?”

How can one be committed to the interest of the nation and the people of the united states, if one has citizenship to another nation?

“There are plenty of US-born, citizen-parent politicians who won’t hesitate to sell us down the river. If I start naming names, we’ll be here all night.”

So you’re arguing that America should not be governed by an American born in America?

Oh, and why is that? Because you won’t vote for them if nominated?

Cruz’s position—that NBC means citizen-at-birth—is a tenable position. It is not patently absurd. Neither is it absurd to hold that NBC includes those whose citizenship derives from one citizen parent.

Soetoro’s position is that we should accept a crude, obvious, rank forgery as his “birth certificate.”

I have not made Soetoro my standard.

How old was Cruz mother when she gave birth? How long did she live in the United States? Did she meet the requirements AT THE TIME to confer citizenship to a baby born on foreign territory to a non-citizen daddy?

That’s the evidence needed based on US Law which MAY have been applicable at the time.

“Are you an expert on the laws of Cuban citizenship?”

Yes.

Cruz is Cuban by birth because his father is Cuban.

I have always said, Cruz has not contracted Potomac Fever YET.

Christie never had my attention.

Yes, she met all the requirements of law, and was a lifelong citizen of the US and a graduate of Rice University about 1960. Ted Cruz was born in 1970.

This is what you posted #15 in this thread:

“I do not want someone born outside of America as my president, even if it is Cruz. Why open the door?”

According to you, someone born outside of America to a service member shouldn’t be eligible for president.

I wish he was disqualified as President

Why? so we can run some Yo Yo?

Maybe we could throw Ted in the trash, for the obvious crime of not choosing to be born in Topeka, and run Mitt Romney again.

Or maybe John Boehner.

Yeah, that'll do. Boehner for President.

Answer my question. How does the exception for servicemembers apply to Cruz, who’s father never served and was not an American citizen when Cruz was born?

Nope. They had their chance and lost. Bachman especially did not get traction, so getting money behind her is extremely unlikely.

Santorum is an outside chance, but he was money poor the first time around.

Now, if we changed the Republican primary process, then I might change my mind, but as long as we retain that Iowa, New Hampshire, on through June system, it will be about money.

“And the children of citizens of the United States that may be born beyond sea, or out of the limits of the United States, shall be considered as natural born citizens”

So clearly Cruz (and McCain) are natural born citizens. And would have been regarded as such by the founding fathers.

The Congress and President (Washington) who passed that declaration included nearly half of the Signers of the Constitution.

The point is that it is not an “exception”. It is the law.

Now explain why you said in #15 that anyone born outside of the United States (which includes service members) should not be eligible for the presidency.
