NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) A pair of gunrunners smuggled firearms into New York City by hiding them in luggage they carried on discount buses offering cheap fares and lesser odds of getting caught, authorities said Monday.
The men were captured in a police sting that netted 254 weapons in 45 transactions since last year the largest total from a gun case in recent memory.
The alleged smugglers, Walter Walker and Earl Campbell, were among 19 people arrested in New York, North Carolina and South Carolina as the result of a 10-month investigation.

Loved Bloomberg's comment about North Carolina and South Carolina: "New York is the safest big city in the nation, but year after year, illegal guns flow into our city from states that dont have common-sense laws that keep guns out of the hands of criminals, said Mayor Bloomberg." http://www.nyc.gov/html/om/html/2013b/pr280-13.html
If we banned buses we would not have these problems...
Fast and Furious???
Fast and Furious
Buying and selling ordinance and getting Americans killed along with Chris Stevens.
But we won’t talk about that in our media will we?
The guns sold for $160,000 according to the 552 count indictment.
$630 per gun...
If they had smuggled cigarettes into NY City, they would be facing the death penalty.
Obama is running guns into to NYC now.
In other news, 19 people were arrested selling freedom of speech. 254 printing presses were seized.
I’m trying to figure out how an American can be arrested for selling legal merchandise.
Blows my mind.
"A lot of firepower, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg mused as he paused to look at some of the 254 guns large-caliber pistols and military-grade weapons modified to improve aim and avoid detection that were bought by the police during the yearlong undercover investigation."
BTW, what, exactly are "large-caliber pistols and military-grade weapons modified to improve aim and avoid detection", and where can I buy some like that?

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) A pair of gunrunners smuggled elevators into New York City by hiding them in luggage they carried on discount buses offering cheap fares and lesser odds of getting caught, authorities said Monday.
At that price, it's clear that there are plenty of other sources of guns, most of which are a little more difficult to pin down than these people. In fact, it would be amusing if a competitor snitched on these guys.
Are they searching every car going into NYC nowadays, or what?
http://www.ballerstatus.com/2013/08/19/rappers-music-online-bragging-leads-biggest-gun-bust-nyc/ Apparently it was a brutha bragging online that led to the busts..
All Soetoros’ sons need guns.
254 guns. You could collect that many from a single city block in any Rocky Mtn state.
North Carolina is safer than New Yawk City and has been for years. Shouldn’t it be the other way around if these guns came from Wild West North Carolina?
Title says “largest in NYC history” and in the article it says “largest in recent memory” . Such is history to the morons who will not study it. History is recorded, idiots— so NYC has had larger seizures, and I’d bet it was in the 20’s.
As usual BS, from the writers and the city people.
NY Post (alleged to be New Yorks' conservative newspaper!):
"The haul included military-grade machine guns with silencers as large as the weapons themselves and Soviet-era assault rifles with flash and smoke suppressors."
"The arsenals most powerful weapons .45-caliber handguns could kill an elephant, said a law-enforcement source."
"The arms were initially bought for $200 to $300 a pop through two networks one in South Carolina and the other in North Carolina, states where gun laws are notoriously weak, officials said."
"About three dozen of the weapons had been stolen down South. Most were peddled fully loaded."
Again, I didn't know that stealing guns was legal in the South....
Funny Bloombutt does not mention NYC being the cause of demand of manufacture of crack cocaine... or the cause of exportation of CRIME GUNS AND CRIME into other states.
That piece of garbage needs a reality check from his picked selective statistics.
I’d like to get statistics on the number of liberal terrorists places like Boston or NYC manufacture and export throughout the world.
Bloomberg does not like looking at those.
It’s for the children.
I am shocked! In every ADT commercial on television, blacks are always the victim or the police hero saving the day. They don’t run guns.
How long before we find out that the police created this “crime” to demonstrate how unenlightened places need “common sense laws”?
Everytime I look at the photo you loaded (thank you), I think those fools are accidents waiting to happen. Guess the attendees are supposed to feel safe because the magazines were removed. What if some of the displayed guns were chambered??? Suppose there was a “Major Hasan” standing near that table waiting for the opportunity to take out someone in that room during their cute photo op?
“The arsenals most powerful weapons .45-caliber handguns could kill an elephant, said a law-enforcement source.”
Chortle. An idiot talking about guns.
The arsenals most powerful weapons .45-caliber handguns could kill an elephant, said a law-enforcement source.
It seems that most of the MSM is wrong about most of the stuff that I know anything about.
This makes it likely that they are just as clueless about nearly everything that they write about.
Now, if they would do articles about their internal office politics, maybe they would know what they are taling aobut. maybe...
I would guess if traced nearly all were stolen.
