Authorities: Iowa couple shot, killed escaped inmate(71 yr old neutralizes intruder)

BEDFORD, Iowa —Law enforcement authorities said Tuesday that an Iowa couple shot and killed an escaped inmate after being held in their home for four hours.

Authorities said Rodney Long forced his way into the couple's home at 2609 Highland Avenue about 10:15 p.m. and held them for the next four hours.

The couple said Long was armed by a semi automatic handgun. He had also taken their phones.

The couple, ages 71 and 66, decided to defend themselves, authorities said.

A short time later the couple called authorities. An Iowa State Trooper was on the road nearby and responded immediately to the scene.

The trooper found Long dead face down on the kitchen floor of the couple's home.

I think they used their own weapon. The town of Bedford knew he was probably close by and was for sure certain armed. Bedford was no doubt well stocked with ready weapons. I am surprised this guy made it through in the home. This house is only one mile from where the perp was involved in a rollover wreck after shooting a deputy.

My creative family suggested they skip the autopsy and spend the money on a taxidermist. They could display the guy out front as a warning to others. The taxidermist should be sure to capture the surprised look on the thug’s face.
