Retailer Dick's Sporting Goods misses estimates, shares fall (stopped carrying AR's)
Reuters ^

Aug 20 (Reuters) - Dick's Sporting Goods Inc reported lower-than-expected quarterly results as fewer customers visited its stores due to cooler and wetter weather and weakness in consumer spending.

Shares of the company, which sells footwear, apparel and camping gear, fell 5 percent to $48.25 in premarket trading.

Consumers have tightened spending amid higher payroll taxes and gasoline prices and a slowing job market. A host of retailers from Macy's Inc to Wal-Mart Stores Inc have reported tepid sales for the latest quarter.

Notice how the MSM claims that this is due to the fact that "Consumers have tightened spending amid higher payroll taxes and gasoline prices".....yet Cabela's had a record quarter only a few weeks back.

People have stopped shopping there due to the fact that they stopped selling AR's. A few thousand spend on guns, ammo and accessories per shooter is difficult to make up selling sports bras.

The unvarnished truth.....what you will certainly not hear in the MSM when it comes to guns.

And BTW Dick's.....Schadenfreude!

You will never see another dime from me again.

Yeah, been a while since my shadow has darkened their door.

Used to go there all the time - now my in town shopping for outdoor gear is done at Gander Mountain.

I think this is why Dick’s started the ‘Field & Stream’ business, but I don’t really know if Field & Stream has AR’s.

I never shopped there in the first place cause they didn’t offer handguns. Plus I have read numerous stories about how the help there thought they were doing you a favor just dealing with long guns.

I had a handful of gift cards for their store that I gave to my brother to buy shoes. I won’t shop there again.

The Dick store closest to me is really bad. I went there one time, and was treated very rudely, and have never gone back.

Darn, I forgot about the boycott and bought a $10 bat grip from them a couple weeks ago.

I went there for certain sports gear, but generally found their HFC dept lacking compared to stores not necessarily specializing in that merchandise.

They also see to a lot of local teams and due to the costs to parents it is getting nuts out there with little league or Pop-Warner. It also seems to carry smaller clothes as I can never find my son’s size and it took 6 months and three tries to get his letter jacket finally right.

I’ll never go to that store again.

. . . due to cooler and wetter weather and weakness in consumer spending.

How about due to p*ss*ng on their customer base who are mostly strong second amendment supporters?

I note that a new FIELD AND STREAM store (Cranberry Township) which just opened in Dick's backyard is doing very well. As is the Gander Mountain in my hometown and the Cabela's just a few miles west over the state line.

Same weather. Same neighborhood. Same economic conditions. But only Dick's has nosedived. Now, why could that possibly be?

Ditto. Went to buy a gun there several years ago and they wouldn’t let me test the trigger pull. If you don’t trust your customers with guns, dont sell them. I bought elsewhere.

A few thousand spend on guns, ammo and accessories per shooter is difficult to make up selling sports bras.

Not to mention a silent segment of their customer base who quit shopping there out of disgust for their meaningless PC pandering.

The Dicks in my area seem to be much more expensive than Academy or Bass Pro shops, why spend more money?

It probably explains why their kayaks are low priced. I almost bought one there but decided to save and boycott.

There are Dicks all over Philadelphia. I’ll leave it at that.

Too bad. Maybe they should have thought before doing the bait and switch on shotgun shells. That was the last straw for us. Then taking the AR’s off the shelf. Buh bye.

Bass Pro Shops does not have AR’s listed on their website either.

Not even a single AR listed under rifles. Screw BassProShops.

Cabela’s for me. Or MidwayUSA. Two of the strongest 2A supporters.

There’s noting in Dicks that you can’t get cheaper somewhere else.

I don’t know how they stay in business.

Dick Sporting Goods is an overpriced “Fudd” store. It was a big departure from their business model to offer an AR for sale. They stabbed a lot of customers in the back when the refused to honor sales orders for the Troy carbine. I will never shop there again.

When the Newtown SHTF they threw every gun rights loving American under the bus. Their actions were tantamount to an endorsement of every BS idea the Progressive media had about AR’s and firearms in general. They might as well have announced ‘We will not soil our stores with these evil weapons of mass murder.’

F___ them.
May they reap the financial whirlwind of their betrayal.
