Rubio is talking less about immigration these days

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (AP) — On a recent swing through the most conservative parts of his state, Sen. Marco Rubio told a packed banquet hall at the St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club that major policy issues were threatening the American dream: onerous taxes, burdensome regulations — and, above all, President Barack Obama's health care law.

But all Doc Washburn wanted to know about was immigration.

The local radio talk-show host asked the Republican senator why he had worked with Democrats on legislation that would give the estimated 11 million immigrants here illegally an eventual path to citizenship.

"We know you, and we've always loved you," Washburn said, "and yet you're pushing this and it's a real problem for us."

The exchange — and Rubio's reluctance to raise the issue after spending months advocating for comprehensive immigration reform — underscore why the potential presidential candidate has undertaken a sort of image-rehabilitation tour, promoting his conservative bona fides to crowds in Florida's most Republican bastions.

Once embraced by the tea party, Rubio's name can now elicit boos and catcalls at rallies. And since he began championing immigration changes, his standing has slipped in some polls.

Maybe he should start off his townhall meetings singing “Mississippi Girl”.

No, he should sing La Internacional.

I still think this was a setup. Rubio was going to be a Tea Party favorite. Clean, hispanic, intelligent, he was everything the Tea Party wanted and everything the GOPe hated. The 2016 Presidential candidate that not even Hillary could beat. Then the GOPe made him an offer he couldnt refuse. Come along with us and not only will you be the 2016 candidate, but be a visionary and bring home the Hispanic vote for the GOP. If you don’t, you are done.

In for a penny, in for a pound. Not only will he not attract the Hispanic vote, he will lose to a rat in the general and McLame and Grahmnesty will be nowhere to be found.

The establishment ruined Rubio for the Tea Party.

If he's that naive, then he's unqualified to be president of the United States. I quail at the thought of someone that gullible going head to head with Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping or King Abdullah.

It’s what the flaming liberal country Singer Faith Hill did

As they say about SOME women arond here, usually on the female teacher/sex with student threads:
NOT GUILTY!

There are a few people entitled to their own opinions that are contrary to conservatism...She could easily be forgiven.

IF the Rubes had remained true to his core conservative values (no matter how deeply hidden they might be) he would have been a ferocious opponent for any lib on the ticket. You, I believe, have it so right. Rubes was set up. They had to knock him down early....and they did. Of course, he was the one who chose to close his eyes and jump of his pedestal and has no one to blame but himself. McLame must be so proud that he at last got to gig Sarah big time. What a wimp of a male. Go Sarah, go Sarah, go Sarah!!!!!

Rubio, however intelligent he may be, showed lack of common sense in getting suckered in by this.

"Suckered in"? You don't pitch something as heinous and repugnant as amnesty for illegals, unless you've willingly jumped in with both feet.

Rubio's not a fool. He's a turncoat.

I believe that Rubio got hood winked by those who have been in the Senate much longer and are snakes in the grass

The issue is too important and too basic to who and what we are as a nation, for even a first term Senator to simply be hoodwinked into supporting the death of the republic.

No, I'm afraid that Rubio wholeheartedly agrees in principle with the left on illegal immigration and amnesty. He wasn't pushed - he jumped in with both feet.

TOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Late to make it up some how.Should been more concern about America’s state of affairs and spending less time trying to brainwash us on how urgent immigration reform is needed if we intend to save our country

Yes. Suckered in. Read the context I replied to. I make no comment as to his support of the amnesty issue, but that he received the needed assurance that, while he knew it would bring controversy, it wouldn't harm his career in the long haul. This support came from the likes of McCan't and Grahamnesty.

Who the hell cares whether or not that turncoat received 'assurances' before plunging the knife into our backs? That's not even a weak justifier for what he did to us, and in fact, it's even worse than him merely being suckered in to supporting amnesty for illegals.

Rubio will never again be trusted by most conservatives. From here on out, his best course of action is to make amends with those who trusted him by being the best conservative he can possibly be. At least then he can retire from politics after his one term in office with some semblance of dignity.
