Rubio is talking less about immigration these days

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (AP) — On a recent swing through the most conservative parts of his state, Sen. Marco Rubio told a packed banquet hall at the St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club that major policy issues were threatening the American dream: onerous taxes, burdensome regulations — and, above all, President Barack Obama's health care law.

But all Doc Washburn wanted to know about was immigration.

The local radio talk-show host asked the Republican senator why he had worked with Democrats on legislation that would give the estimated 11 million immigrants here illegally an eventual path to citizenship.

"We know you, and we've always loved you," Washburn said, "and yet you're pushing this and it's a real problem for us."

The exchange — and Rubio's reluctance to raise the issue after spending months advocating for comprehensive immigration reform — underscore why the potential presidential candidate has undertaken a sort of image-rehabilitation tour, promoting his conservative bona fides to crowds in Florida's most Republican bastions.

Once embraced by the tea party, Rubio's name can now elicit boos and catcalls at rallies. And since he began championing immigration changes, his standing has slipped in some polls.

I will NEVER forget Rubio’s embrace of amnesty. And I will NEVER forgive him for it—no matter how much and strongly he shifts into a “see, I’m really a conservative” poseur mode.

I think few of us will be fooled again by him.

“that he’s simply giving the U.S. House its own space to tackle immigration”

And THAT SHOULD have been his response to the enticements of that snake in the garden of Eden Juan McCain and his little pansey Mini-Me Graham when they FIRST approached him.

He will have a hard time living this down unless he clearly aannounces he was wrong - something he has not yet done.

If he had any balls he would answer the question honestly. His big money donors told him they wanted amnesty, and Schumer and McCain assured him the bulk of his constituents would get over their anger enough to vote for him in the next election. That, and he could expect an influx of campaign donations from the big money donors, enough to give him a substantial advantage over a challenger.

I suspect his bribes, er, campaign donations haven’t dried up.

If the big money is still there, he’ll be headed nowhere.

“An honest statesman doesn’t fear an armed populace’’.- Thomas Jefferson. No wonder the majority of these guys are trying to eliminate the 2nd. Amendment.

Don’t forget, do get truthful responses from Rubio, you need to ask your questions in Spanish and you need to insist that Rubio answer in Spanish.

Maybe he should start off his townhall meetings singing “Mississippi Girl”.

It’s what the flaming liberal country Singer Faith Hill did when she decided because she was a “star” she could tell us all what we should think about social issues. It was written to try to quell the backlash she got from her comments.

Bingo! McCan't and Grahamnesty used him for their purposes and I'm sure enjoyed discrediting a Tea Party favorite in the process. Rubio, however intelligent he may be, showed lack of common sense in getting suckered in by this.

Those whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad

-or at least they fill them with hubris

One cannot contemplate the tragic fall of Marco Rubio from the heights without a real feeling of sadness for what might have been. He was a man of extraordinary gifts who committed two major sins, one forgivable and one unforgivable.

He committed the forgivable sin of bad timing. His defection could not have come at a worse time because it put him not just on the wrong side of the issue of immigration but on the wrong side of the ledger. The party is in the process of purification and it is looking for leaders whom they can trust for the very survival of the movement and of the nation. At a time when the party perceives John Boehner and Mitch McConnell to be selling us out on the issues of Obamacare and immigration, Marco Rubio's betrayal comes at a time when conservatives are marking their paladins to be either with us or with the enemy. Rubio sold out at a time when conservatives are looking to clean house and are in no mood to forgive.

Rubio committed an unforgivable sin far worse than bad timing. Rubio betrayed that he would risk the entire future of conservatism in America in order to advance his career. We conservatives equate the future the conservative movement with the future of the nation. Rubio consciously put the nation at risk for personal gain. The issue of immigration is an existential importance for conservatism and for the Republic. Rubio would cost us our sovereignty, our economic future, and any hope for preserving sanity in the polling booths for at least a generation. By the time America recovers from the immigration flood consciously created by the Democrat party to stack election demographics for generations, there might well be no grand American experiment to salvage. The issue of immigration is just that serious.

Rubio has aligned himself with the elitists and against conservatives. He has done so at the worst time. In doing so he risks everything. We simply can no longer tolerate self dealing politicians who will sell us out. Rubio can never, ever be trusted.
