Vernon Hills: No guns in new Dave & Buster's (Chicago area)
Chicago Tribune ^ | 20 aug 2013 | Kate Jacobson

Patrons at a planned Dave & Buster's in Vernon Hills might be able to play shoot-'em-up video games in the venue, but village officials have decided they don't want people bringing real weapons into the restaurant and arcade, despite a recent state law allowing concealed weapons.

Representatives of the company appeared before the Vernon Hills village board recently as part of the effort to open a new location for the national entertainment chain of the Westfield Hawthorn Mall.

The bar and restaurant bills itself as a kind of Chuck E. Cheese for adults, a location that includes arcade-style games, drinks and food.

Village officials required the restaurant apply for a special permit for its proposed 200 arcade game machines – something not required by the state or county – and are making that license contingent on various factors. Village officials recently added one more item to the list: Anyone with a concealed carry weapon should not be allowed in.

Thank goodness. Now those who would rob or commit mayhem with a weapon will see the sign and look for somewhere else to commit mayhem.

Sarc off

I suppose they intend to search everybody or just those that look like they might carry. What idiots.

Some here wonder why I would say licenses are the root of tyranny.

Wonderful! A minimum of FOUR levels of bureaucracy: federal, state, county, and now, to further erode your rights, the "Village".

Remember:

It may take a village to raise a child, but it takes a tank to raze a village.

Why, in Heaven’s name, do people continue making laws and regulations that only honest people will follow anyway? Incomprehensible.

Who would go there anyway? There are enough GOOD places to pick over Dave and Buster’s. Better yet, boycot the entire Chicago area.

Chuck E. Cheese for adults.

A room full of 20-40yo’s acting like 6yo’s.

Now there’s a place I can’t wait to visit.

First off, I used to live in Vernon Hills and I defy anyone to find a hill of any sort in Vernon Hills. A parking lot curb is the greatest elevation change one can find.

It is a mystery to me how the local government can rule on how a business’ customers exercise their state recognized rights.

Then, they have absolute liability for the safety of their patrons.

When I travel to SD & Wyoming I drive quite a bit out of my way to avoid Chicago. I have had close calls on Western Ave and O Ave. No more.
