The former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak could be freed from prison on Thursday, his lawyer told Reuters, after a court ordered his release in a corruption case that was the last remaining legal grounds for his detention.

Leaving the Cairo prison where the court convened, Fareed el-Deeb said: "The court decided to release him." Asked when, he said: "Maybe tomorrow."

Mubarak, 85, is being retried on charges of ordering the killing of protesters during the 2011 uprising that led to his downfall. However, he has served the maximum amount of pre-trial detention permitted in that case.

Are they going to make him dictator? They might be better off. That’s the only system that works (kind of) for Islamic states.

When the rumor first hit two day ago that Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak would be released from prison by the new administration, many were incredulous: would Egypt truly risk such a vicious slap in the face of US foreign policy which so carefully orchestrated his ouster during the Arab spring of 2011?

When I was in Cairo in ‘98, the locals were very afraid of the radicals taking control of the country.
We asked “Why does everyone drive with their headlights off at night?”
A: “To keep the radicals from firing RPG’s at your car”.

I’m serious, this was the answer!

Some “arab spring”. Once again liberals are trapped into their own politics, and now they are stuck with calling MB part of the arab spring. And these fools will stick to it and never admit correction because they are insane, much like uncorrected children of Dr. Spock.

I'm worried there might be a magician's slight-of-hand re: Israel.

While we watch Egypt, Hamas, or some other death cult, will make a play for Israel, God forbid.

Sad, but true. Islamists need dictorial control. They don't have enough self-control to self-govern.
