Former Australian Deputy Prime Minister Tim Fischer, in reaction to the tragic murder of baseball player Chris Lane in Oklahoma last Friday, has decried the incident as a direct consequence of organizations that support gun rights such at the National Rifle Association. Fischer claimed that the murder is "the bitter harvest and legacy of the policies of the NRA that even blocked background checks for people buying guns at gunshows" and added that, "People should take this into account before going to the United States."
Fischer's comments are disgraceful in myriad ways. To advance one's political agenda by tapping into the powerful emotions that continue to emanate from this tragedy is beneath the dignity of anyone, let alone a former deputy prime minister. No law controlling or banning guns would have prevented those Oklahoma thugs from opening fire into the back of Chris Lane. Sadly, Fischer and other Australians who reject the right of people to protect themselves have lately taken advantage of gun-related deaths in the United States to support the continuation of gun control in their home country and to make Australians think that they are the beneficiaries of such measures. By doing so, they seek to convince Australians that they should be thankful for having their guns confiscated, lest they should be susceptible to the similar acts of violence. And do not believe for a second that Tim Fischer's comments are isolated remarks hastily spouted without any connection to politics, for Fischer and former Australian Prime Minister John Howard are anxious to bring Australia's gun control measures to the United States.

Someone better inform the poor chap that once one takes away certain race upon race crimes in four US cities (Detroit, DC, Chicago, and New Orleans, if I remember correctly) our murder rate descends to fourth from the bottom.

Nonsense. This kids were all minors. They can't purchase a handgun legally. All the laws and regulations in the world wouldn't have prevented them from getting their guns. It would only prevented law abiding citizens the opportunity to defend themselves against them.

Well, Mr. Fischer, if it was the gun who did this, why was the gun not arrested and charged and now facing trial?
Why were three black males arrested? What did they have to do with it?
If the three black males shot Lane with a crossbow, would it have been the crossbow’s fault? The bolt’s fault?
If the three black males clubbed him to death with a baseball bat, would it be the baseball bat’s fault?
If the three black males beat Lane to death with their hands, would it be their hands fault?
Or, Mr. Fisher, is the death of Lane the fault of the three black males who murdered him?

There are breeds of dogs who, if you don't give them something to do, they'll find something themselves, and it will be something destructive. These young people need jobs. I'm not talking about "make work" gooberment jobs, that's really just another form of Welfare. I'm saying we need to end Welfare and change the child labor laws so these young people can LEARN the value of work. We don't need illegal immigrants doing low skilled jobs. We need to end Welfare, put poor Americans in the low skilled jobs so they can have a chance to value themselves.
