Daniel Ellsberg: US on Verge of Becoming Police State Under Obama

Daniel Ellsberg, the man who leaked the Pentagon Papers in 1971, says the United States is on the verge of becoming a police state as evidenced by the National Security Agency’s data collection programs and the treatment of secret document leakers Edward Snowden and Bradley Manning.

“We have not only the capability of a police state, but certain beginnings of it right now,” Ellsberg told The Huffington Post Wednesday. “And I absolutely agree with Edward Snowden. It’s worth a person’s life, prospect of assassination, or life in prison or life in exile—it’s worth that to try to restore our liberties and make this a democratic country.”

He cited the NSA’s phone and Internet data collection programs as evidence that the nation has reached the “capability” of becoming a police state. …

Ellsberg can be hard to find. Word in LA was that he hid in plain sight at a nudist colony while being tracked down for leaking the Pentagon Papers.

Just saying.

If the administration plays the cards it’s got right, there will never be an opposition party in office again.

Been thinking about that.

Realistically when was the last time we even had an opposition party?

No one opposes the direction, they only quibble over the speed.

Daniel Ellsberg can go bleep himself & I hope the Obama SS breaks his door down & beats him senseless.

What he did in 1972 already makes him a Fonda-style traitor.

Too bad if Ellsberg thinks the U.S. is turning into a communist police state just like the regime in Hanoi which he has admired for half a century now.

Perhaps God has let him live this long to redeem himself.

Perhaps not. He has much damage to undo.

His actual words are pretty mealy-mouthed, unlike the headline.

Well, he IS a liberal - and it's a liberal ushering in the police state... got to be some conflict there.

In the village the Obama comment would be true. A kid really never knows if the guy is his dad or just his uncle

In that particular case, they weren’t stupid though - at least not all of them. They were told to stand down. When they had proof that the guy who orchestrated the Boston bombing was Hamza, the son of Bin Laden, and had him in the hospital where they could have taken him into custody and executed justice.... Obama met with the Saudi ambassador privately, somebody in intelligence changed the classification from “known terrorist”, Hamza all of a sudden stopped being a “person of interest” but was simply a student who had overstayed his visa, Michelle Obama went and figuratively high-fived him in the hospital, and they sent him on his merry way before the Boston Police could do what the feds were unwilling to do.

And then they let him into a White House Independence Day celebration with military families, so he could gloat.

But somebody in the intelligence community was willing to risk 20 years in prison by saving the records of the “known terrorist” classification and the information of who removed that classification and let Bin Laden’s son go. They showed those records to Glenn Beck and 10 Congressmen. Beck said that the news should come from the mainstream press and sent the information to the media. Reporters wrote stories but the editors/CEO’s all refused to let the stories run.

IOW, there are good spooks who are incensed by what is going on. They are being made to appear stupid and/or incompetent because the regime itself is working for the terrorists. The media heads are all either threatened or in bed with the regime, and the reporters with any integrity at all are being shut up by the heads while being snooped on and/or killed by the regime itself. We know that the media heads were threatened in October of 2008 with FCC and FEC annihilation if they reported on Obama’s ineligibility, and the media heads told the on-air personalities that their careers would be over and the lives of them and their families were questionable if they or any of their guests talked about the issue credibly.

Now we’ve got an easily-documentable case where the regime worked with the terrorists to keep the planner of the Boston bombing - Osama Bin Ladens’ son Hamza - from being arrested and brought to justice, instead “celebrating” with Bin Laden’s son TWICE (once in the hospital and once at the White House). The media knows it full well, and they are ALL covering for this terrorist regime while everybody assumes that the spooks are incompetent rather than hostage by their own government.

It is way past time for the rest of the spooks to come out and for America - and especially Congress - to STAND WITH THEM by impeaching both Holder and Obama and having a real investigation of what the heck is going on with this godless, lawless, cold-blooded regime.

The press is NOT ‘dumbed down’.

They’re in on the game.

I agree with your view of the Republicans. Of course, that is why I have decided to speak in terms of opposition.

While I rather like G. W. Bush, he was off on a tangent from Clinton, not in opposition to Clinton’s progressivism. As we can see, the Patriot Act is the largest single mistake since the War on Poverty.

Hollywood was making a movie on him...

‘Scared and Demoralized’ By Trump - Meryl Streep Met with De Niro to Plot New Movie ‘The Post’
MRC TV ^ | December 14, 2017 | Mark Judge
Posted by Tolerance Sucks Rocks
‘The Post,” the new movie starring Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks, is three things: a film about the Pentagon Papers, classified documents about the Vietnam War that were leaked to the media in 1971, a film about the press and Donald Trump, and, finally, an indictment about Harvey Weinstein and sexism in Hollywood.
