FILNER RESIGNS, EXIT DEAL OK'D
San Diego Union Tribune ^ | August 23, 2013 | Craig Gustafson

Posted on 08/23/2013 5:51:58 PM PDT by BAW

Bob Filner announced his resignation Friday as San Diego’s 35th mayor following a tumultuous six weeks in which lurid allegations of repeated sexual misconduct against women crippled his ability to lead and turned him into a subject of national ridicule.

Filner will to step down on Aug. 30 as part of a deal approved Friday afternoon by the City Council on a 7-0 vote in closed session that limits his legal and financial exposure stemming from a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by a former aide.

In a dramatic appearance before the council, Filner was both apologetic yet defiant, lashing out against a "lynch-mob mentality."

"For my part in causing all of this, I offer a deep apology certainly to all the citizens of San Diego," he said after the vote.

He added: "To all the women I offended, I had no intention to be offensive."

But he questioned the claims against him.

"Not one allegation ...has even been independently verified or proven in court," he said. "I have never sexually harassed anyone."

He criticized the "media and their political agents" and said he "played into the hand" of those who wanted a "political coup."

He said he "provided ammunition for that."

Time for seven more recall petitions to be started. If all of them are eager to protect Filner from the just penalties for his actions, then they can join him on the political sidelines.

To the limited extent that ABCCBSNBSCNN have covered this, they almost never use the word “Democrat” in the story. If he had been a Republican, they would have identified he party affiliation several times in every mention of the story.

Bye bye Bob. Good riddance.

So any chance of a Republican getting elected Mayor?

Calling Roger Hedgecock or even Pete Wilson... Please pick up the courtesy phone.

I saw the surrender bob skywriting the day it happened. I laughing hard, not so much as the skywriting but at the reactions of the people on the streets of San Diego.

I made a name up for that sharptoothed little rodent; Ominous the Rhinominus. Actually, I half expected Bob Filner to hold out until September 4th, which would be his next birthday. Imagine the going away parties he could have had. It can’t get much worse at this point.

Exactly. If Carlos Danger and Client #9 can be given a second chance at public office then Filner will get one too.

Funny and hideous at the same time. We’ll see Filthy Filner running for office again in the near future. Democratic pervs always get a second chance.

As his employer, the city of San Diego is responsible for Filner’s actions while he was/is mayor.

I'm sorry, he was NOT employed. He was elected. Somewhere along the line, this distinction has been perverted, where someone who is voted out of office can gain unemployment benefits, vacation, retirement... And at some point, these creatures stopped serving the people. I do not think these two things are unrelated.

Heh. The “Mayor for Life.” How could I forget?

Marion Barry, Comeback King, on Spitzer, Weiner, and Being Truly ‘Humble’

He was “persecuted”. Yep. That's it.
