Assad Calls Obama’s Bluff
Weekly Standard ^ | Sep 2, 2013 | Lee Smith

Posted on 08/24/2013 5:22:25 AM PDT by nuconvert

The timing was probably not a coincidence, falling as it did on two anniversaries. August 18, 2011, was when President Obama first demanded Syrian president Bashar al-Assad step aside, and August 20 last year was when Obama warned that the use of chemical weapons would “change my calculus.” It was a year to the day after Obama’s warning that Assad launched what is to date the regime’s largest chemical weapons attack. At least a thousand people are dead, likely more, in several Damascus suburbs and outlying towns. The video reports from Syria are chilling—children foaming at the mouth, their unblinking eyes full of terror, their contorted limbs frozen like broken dolls.

This assumes the al qaeda led rebels didn’t launch their own chemical attack on their own people to blame Assad.

We don’t know.

They train their own people to blow themselves up. They put women and children in harm’s way to blame their deaths on Israel. There isn’t any tactic beneath them.

Maybe Obama meant ‘calculus’ in this sense: “A calculus (plural calculi) is a stone (a concretion of material, usually mineral salts) that forms in an organ or duct of the body.”

“What makes it unprecedented is less the violent furies raging across the region than the fact the commander in chief has to an unprecedented degree weakened America’s hand and sullied America’s reputation. With all his empty talk, the president who says he does not bluff has made America’s word cheap. “

That is the narrative the MSM is sticking to. “Chemical weapons used, has to have been Assad.” BS. I belive it was the Muslim Brotherhood.

“We don’t know.”

I agree.

There were mineral concretions as big as basketballs in coal seams I once mined. I hate to tell you what we called them...

just too, too convenient, wasn’t it?

as if Assad and Putin wanted to challenge obama and brennan to up their game when their operations already are in the process of imploding all over the middle east

So far as I can tell, no motive has been put forward for the attack.

The dead lived in Damascus suburbs. What was their politics? Were the merely chosen to die and are innocent of strong stated allegiance to either side? Who would benefit from the deaths?

This area of Damascus has been attack before.

From the article:
“For months, the regime has been shelling these neighborhoods northeast of Damascus, explains Tony Badran, research fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies.

The Weekly Standard never met a military intervention they did not like. I consider them mostly a paper to the rinos like John McCain. They still support the ridiculous ideas of ‘democracy’ in the Middle East...even after it has proven a disaster everywhere it has been tried so far. You cannot promote a pure democracy(mob rule) in a region that has no civil society or structures in place to insure the rights of the minorities. The whole thing is a fools errand at this point, as all we are doing in the ‘Arab Spring’ is facilitating a Muslim Brotherhood and Alqeada caliphate throughout the region. That is not in the strategic interests of this country. PERIOD.

Insanity.
