TEXAS: Sen. Ted Cruz won’t endorse Sen. John Cornyn for re-election

DUBLIN, N.H. – If Texas’ senior senator, John Cornyn, was hoping for an endorsement from Texas’ junior senator, Ted Cruz, he can forget it.

Cruz said Friday afternoon he’s staying neutral as Cornyn seeks re-election next year.

“Sen. Cornyn is a good man. He's friend. He and I have worked side by side on a great many issues fighting for Texas, fighting for conservative principles,” he said when asked about Cornyn’s campaign at a New Hampshire GOP fund-raiser. “It is likely that I am going to stay out of incumbent primaries across the country, either supporting incumbents or opposing incumbents.”

Cruz, 42, is a tea party favorite who toppled the establishment candidate, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, in a hotly contested GOP Senate primary last year. Cornyn remained neutral in that race for an open seat, as did many statewide Republican officials.

Neutrality when it comes to the reelection of the No. 2 Republican in the Senate – Cornyn serves as deputy minority leader – is dramatically different. In Kentucky, tea party Sen. Rand Paul has enthusiastically promoted the reelection of Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, to the dismay of some tea party activists.

Cornyn shrugged off the snub.

“Senator Cruz has been a great addition to the US Senate and I have enjoyed working with him, fighting for Texas and conservative principles,” he said through an aide, told of Cruz’s comments. “He and I agree that the only endorsements that matter are those of the Texas voters and I look forward to earning their vote in 2014.”

This wasn’t the first such incident.

In February 2012, in the midst of the Texas primary, Cruz declined to endorse Cornyn’s Senate GOP leadership bid, saying he wanted to see how many “constitutional conservatives” held seats when the contest took place that fall.

I'm beyond surprise that no one on FR posted anything about RINO Scott Brown's appearance as substitute host on the Factor last night.

The first 5 minutes of him and his marxist propagandist guest was all I could take...and away I went to the computer to freep and cool off.

It played out like a campaign stop for me. Is he running for office? Spineless if you ask me.

Why would Cruz want to build consensus with people who think he’s a “whacko bird?” He’s actually doing what he’s supposed to do: listen to the people he represents and do what they want.

Ted Cruz is entirely a self made man. Rand Paul rode into town on his father’s horse.

Yep Rand Paul just bought Mitch McConnell's support to be repaid some time in the future. Hate to see our Tea Party candidates start to make deals with people like that. That is the beginning of the end for them, as in Rubio making a deal with McCain.

Now we need to make sure Ted Cruz doesn't pay consequences for not supporting Cornyn by getting rid of Cornyn in 2014. Cornyn is the one remaining RINO Senator up in 2014 who does not yet have a strong primary challenger.

Cruz looks better and better.

It’s amazing what one man with integrity can do.

Good for Ted. We need another Ted Cruz not another GOP snooze.

Here is the video of Ted Cruz at the August 20th Town Hall in Dallas. He does a really good job with the few hecklers. He lets one of them speak and then addresses their question.

Cruz Town Hall

Where is Cornyn's town hall? For that matter, where in my Republican representatives town hall?

Not when they win. If Cornyn is replaced they add one more to their ranks. Paul made a mistake in endorsing McConnell.

I think this is also a signal that Cruz will pressure Cornyn, and the rest of the RSC, to stay the hell out of GOP primaries in SC, Tenn, Wyomoning

> Sadly, none of this is fiction.. and even sadder still, is it took this mess that is currently happening to backhand some of the deniers (low info voters) for them to see that this is not only happening in fiction books :/

I think the reality is turning out to be worse than the books or movies portray. For one, you can’t use those brute tactics they employ and hit one nerve center that brings down the whole regime nor are the scenarios where guards step away from their posts when lured by a sexy looking 20 or 30 something who then karate chops him and stashes him in a bathroom or behind a desk while a hacker hooks up a device that cracks the security code in 30 seconds or less. That’s all liberal Hollywood fantasyland crap. Everyone knows it takes at least a minute for those cracking programs to break the code but even then you’ll have to chop off someone’s head and hold their eyeball up to the retinal scanner ...all in under 5 minutes before security reinforcements arrive... : )

Good for Ted. Cornyn needs to be replaced with a Tea Party conservative.

Cruz keeps making good decisions.

Last time cornyn was seen in Texas was on a milk carton.

His paychecks are coming from somewhere else.

I’ve said for ages that you couldn’t get a yes or no answer out of cornyn if you put him up against a wall with a bazooka to his head.

I disagree. Some people eventually see the light and change others have to feel the heat to change. RINOs will never see the light. There is no profit in trying to reveal it to them. It is a waste of time and effort.

We either sweep in with conservative principles or we disappear forever. There is no compromise. Compromise is what got us to where we are.

Pick your principles carefully. They have to be worthy of carrying to your grave or going to your grave because you stand for them.

Ted was even in Fayetville, Arkansas this week. I don’t get the value of that investment of his precious time. He was there with his father and Demint at a small open venue. Very well controlled but open to the public by RSVP.

Until a serious challenger steps forward it won’t make much difference who endorses or doesn’t endorse in the primary. So far a strong contender hasn’t put a name in the primary hat.

Isn’t it curious how the Dewhurst ‘do you know who I AM?’ 911 call to spring his stepniece out of the clink is getting no play?

Conservative radio in Austin jumped all over it, but I’ve seen no mention of it elsewhere.
