Nypd beat cops posted a police-union warning in every precinct yesterday instructing officers not to go above and beyond the call of duty — or risk losing their jobs because of the new stop-and-frisk laws, The Post has learned.

“All officers should take action if he or she sees a crime in progress, or if he or she sees that his or her life or the life of another person is in danger . . . [But] all officers should be careful not to initiate any law-enforcement action that could be construed as violating the new legislation and subject the officer to legal action,” read the memo by Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association president Patrick Lynch.

Several rank-and-file cops said yesterday that they plan on following Lynch’s advice rather than risk their careers.

Even the bad guys have gotten the memo.

“Perps on the street are saying, ‘If they’re not going to stop me, I’m going to start carrying [my gun] again.’ That’s the word on the street,” said one police source.

Then that is how it shall be. The stop and frisk is basic Police State BS. It should not be supported at all.

Cops with their hands in their pockets. Makes me feel safe. Not going to NYC now.

We can expect seeing lots of Giuliani on the talking-head shows.

Looks like an interesting opportunity for an experiment.

Detroit is restarting the stop and frisk policy Coleman Young ended when he was mayor.

Criminal gang-bangers and thugs have 2nd Amendment rights? Who knew?

I think the NYPD have enough to do without having to frame innocent peeps.

It’s NYC , why should anyone care about the saftey of New Yorkers?

Give NYC to AL Qeda and or the Taliban in exchange for peace.

I don’t especially love stop and frisk laws but they’re a natural result of urban society. Cities have all kinds of laws and ordinances we don’t have out here.

It should be very interesting to see what happens to crime rates in NY vs Detroit over the coming years now that Detroit is restarting stop and frisk.

Top-down law enforcement. The feds don’t protect and serve the States. So the states and cities are blowing off their law-abiding citizens.

New Yorkers—you’re on your own. Prosecutors will go after the law-abiding, like Zimmerman while ignoring gangs. FR bleeding hearts will cheerleaders them.
Cops will ignore the gangbangers. Obamanation w/ GOP-e Greek chorus.

Gutless law enforcement. NYC tired of trailing Chitcago?
Good luck Big Apple. Yer gonna need it!

This policy is only going to hurt the people that it proposes to help. The people who live on the Upper East Side and all the other very very affluent areas of NYC are not going to be affected by this policy. Unless, the bad guys start committing crimes in those neighborhoods.

But, more than likely they will not as they know that upon getting caught, things will be much worse for them. No one cares if Drug Dealer #1 kills Drug Dealer #2. But, if Robber #! kills some high society type, holy moly.

If I was NYPD, I’d just handle my calls and go home. If that’s what the people of the city want, than let ‘em have it. Won’t be long before the carnage begins.

So, basically, they will just be neighborhood watchmen. Now ‘rat Cuomo needs to be approach and say citizens must protect themselves and drop their ‘gun laws’. What Rudy made safe, the courts make unsafe.

Exactly. I find it baffling that so many people here on FreeRepublic would come down on the side of Mayor Michael “Police State” Bloomberg on this issue.
