A new IRS policy is targeting American veterans' organization with threats of stiff fines if the groups do not report on the service records of all their members, the Daily Caller reports.
The new audit guidelines requires the veteran groups to "maintain dates of service and character of service records for all members … The penalty for not having the required proof of eligibility is, apparently, $1,000 per day," according to the American Legion.
The new guidelines are enforced by the same internal IRS bureau once lead by Lois Lerner, whose leadership of the office created a scandal by targeting conservative and tea party groups and is now under investigation by Congress.

Recently, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has come under attack for malicious treatment of certain U.S. citizens and groups by singling them out based upon their personal political preferences. At this time, it is still unclear where the direct orders came from to initiate such heinous activities, but what is crystal clear is that this type of activity is not new for the IRS.
The IRS has mastered the art of breaking their own laws, one case in particular; using banks to launder and then steal disabled veterans’ disability checks.
The Veterans Disability Act of 2010 is a Federal law which exempts VA disability from withholding of any sort. Actually, existing code USC, Title 38, §5301 already protected VA disability from withholding, but this provision was re-iterated and included in the newer legislation of 2010, because too many civil court judges were legislating from the bench and including veterans’ disability monies as earned income and granting it to ex-spouses (men and women) in divorce proceedings, at times, leaving disabled veterans without any safety net for self-care.
However, the IRS is still figuring out ways to get to a veteran’s disability money. How do I know? Recently, it happened to me...

The Military Vet organizations are conservative. This is another “Tea-Party” hit. The IRS (obama) continue to target conservative groups using the IRS. These bastard IRS folks should be put out of buisness. Abolish the IRS.
Lets start with a in depth look at John Kerry’s service records then.
How are American Legion groups any different from other 501c3 organizations that personal record must be maintained under threat of penalty? This would be equivalent to requiring churches, for instance, to keep personal documentation on its members (to be available to the IRS) that show they are “members in good standing” or be fined.
Can the American Legion push back on this???

If the abuse by the IRS on conservative, patriotic groups, TEA party etc wasn’t bad enough now they are targeting our veterans organizations.
One thing has been made clear by this administration and that is its hate toward our warriors, regardless if they are active or retired! One would think that our liberal “friends” who are vets would be bothered with this would join the republicans in putting an end to the IRS. Many did express outrage when news hit about the IRS targeting groups but don’t hold your breath that they will lift a finger over this either. They need the IRS in place since it is the enforcer for obamacare.
Does anyone in DC have a spine to stop the abuse or will we be subjected to more scathing letters and rants during hearings again?! We want action not talk and there is no one in DC to do that.

The IRS has now proved it has over served its usefulness and it is now time it goes, all 70K of them. We deserve it. If the nation cannot figure out a way to fund its basic responsibilities then through an income tax, it needs to go too because it has obviously over stretched its reason for being a central government. If anyone is in doubt what those functions were, look at article one section 8.
Nothing new. Departments (state Legion Hqs) will shut a post down if the post doesn’t have copys of members DD 214’s.
Just because your were in the military doesn’t mean you can be a member of the VFW or the AL.
Proof showing dates of service (membership is restricted to serving during a declared time of combat)which is a copy of their DD 214. It is required from any member before being accepted into the Legion and kept on file at that respective post.. VFW restricts their membership to those who served overseas and are awarded a theater campaign ribbon ...am a member of both organizations
Some posts skirt that and when they do they become disqualified and often un-chartered....

The idea of Liberty has been neglected in our children. They have been turned into Jacobins and Machiavellian-Hobbsian-Spinozoan materialists. They are hollowed out and without a core of values. The Progressive experiment has supplanted the Constituitional Republican experiment, and is nearly complete. The right man (obama) came along at the right time, and is finishing the destruction of this country. We can only react to his acts. We react too slowly. There is no republican opposition to his programs in the senate. They cower and tremble at his pronouncements and his color. The congressional unforgivable sin is to be labeled a racist for opposing him. I do not see a good future for the country. The spark of freedom and liberty is flickered out to gray, cold ashes. History will repeat itself. Obama is not unlike other despots of the early and mid-1900's. They will act the same. You can see it as if it is a painting being placed upon a canvas.

I'd been asked to be a contributing writer for key Tea Party personality "Joe the Plumber." I'd been writing freelance articles on veterans affairs for some time, publishing and distributing them mostly through Facebook, and I viewed the personal call Joe made to me as one of the greatest compliments I'd been paid in regard to those articles. I jumped at the opportunity to join his team and give my work, such as this piece, a wider audience. I can't help but think that part of my decision to join Joe's team may have played a part in being singled out by the IRS at this specific time and having my VA disability money taken from me in complete breach of federal law.
The good news is that through my persistence, and my refusal to accept their answer, that it is okay to launder VA disability money, I was able to get the IRS to refund all of the money they'd taken from my bank. I am working with the IRS to remedy their great misunderstanding of my earnings for 2010, and I am reaching out to all disabled veterans to let them know that if this is happening to them, they do have rights, and they need to stand up for them.
What is most bothersome to me is that all these IRS people supposedly come from a heritage of a free Constitutional government and society. What can be in the minds of these persons that can rationalize the harming/actions against USA citizens, many who offered their life so these new generation goons have the where with all for such personal power. Something has drastically gone wrong with these enforcer mindsets. Does anyone remember the days of the ‘friend’ly cops?
It's time to boycott the communists and their employers. It's something we each can do to get our point across without violence, and starting NOW!

Given some of the questions that the IRS is KNOWN to have asked Tea Party and Patriot groups, is it logical to see a next step of having these Legion Posts SENDING their databases to the IRS? Is it possible to see access to these databases being abused? Is there a pattern of tax abuse in this area to justify this IRS demand?
Or is this the ever increasing Big Brother statism, "I have the power" and you are powerless!

I don’t understand why the IRS would want this information. What’s in it for them? They would only do it if there was something in it for them, but what would that be?

The IRS is requesting/demanding veteran service records from a VSO? For what possible purpose? This is bizonal bizarre. Are they trying to use the membership lists, as a starting point for an apriori domestic terror group designation???

I’m wondering what type of individual personnel records the IRS thinks the American Legion may have. I joined when I was on active duty in Germany in 1984. I only had to state I was on active duty and didn’t have to provide anything else. Also, requesting a copy of one’s DD 214 gets into privacy act violations.
They don't want the information, they want to bully the American Legion into wasting resources gathering it, and to make them responsible for its accuracy with their tax status as a hostage. There is, as well, a chilling effect on other conservative organizations: if they can get away with this with the American Legion they can come after anybody.
The feds will question the records of our veterans, but not the citiznenship of possible invaders?
