Syria crisis: warplanes spotted in Cyprus as tensions rise in Damascus
Guardian ^ | 8/26/2013 | Martin Chulov in Beirut, Mona Mahmood and Julian Borger

Warplanes and military transporters have begun arriving at Britain's Akrotiri airbase on Cyprus, less than 100 miles from the Syrian coast, in a sign of increasing preparations for a military strike against the Assad regime in Syria.

Two commercial pilots who regularly fly from Larnaca on Monday told the Guardian that they had seen C-130 transport planes from their cockpit windows as well as small formations of fighter jets on their radar screens, which they believe had flown from Europe.

Residents near the British airfield, a sovereign base since 1960, also say activity there has been much higher than normal over the past 48 hours.

If an order to attack targets in Syria is given, Cyprus is likely to be a hub of the air campaign.

A lot of buzz that Bradley (Chelsea) Manning is in line for it.

Oh yeah, he'll be in line for "it" all right.

And if I recall, Syria has some fairly robust air defenses, so announcing yourself in advance has some drawbacks.

Yeah, I was wondering about their capabilities...they are supplied by the Ruskies. Their air defenses are capable from what I gather as they were upgraded after Israel embarrassed them severely.

What are their defense capabilities like against ships and the like??

Didn't Saddam have the same air defenses? Perhaps the Syrian defenses were upgraded with newer Russian designs.

This is going to put Putin on the spot. The exercise will be an endorsement for:

1. Russian air defenses, or
2. U.S. aviation technology.
3. Perhaps Chinese Silkworm anti ship weaponry.

The Serbs shot down about 3 of our planes in ‘99. The Syrians can take down dozens if we are stupid enough to put them in range of their air defenses.

The Guardian journalists strike again! Do they ever do any research? The Eurofigher Typhoons are the training squadron from RAF Coningsby in the UK. This is 29 (Reserve) Squadron deploying for three weeks on their Summer Camp.

The admin. likes playing cards. Hoping a bluff will do the trick. No statesmen-like leaders anywhere on the scene on the U.S./Great Britain side of the equation. Certainly no Doc Holidays or even Bush the elder or younger.

I would advise everyone get and read Alas Babylon NOW.

As with most leftists, Obama comes across as real know-it-all, busybody Poindexter. Putin really is the neighborhood tough guy.

This is not going to end well...

I am posting this here to refresh everyone’s memory. It needs wider circulation.

Carney said today in WH presser that they basically knew that Syrian regime was responsible for WMD attack because they had maintained control of WMD stocks at all times...yet.....after Benghazi..out of the blue..Panetta said this:

“Today, Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta announced that the US no longer had knowledge of the whereabouts of some Syrian chemical weapons, and admitted that those weapons may have been funneled to rebels or Iranian proxies. “There has been intelligence that there have been some moves that have taken place,” said Panetta. “Where exactly that’s taken place, we don’t know.”

http://e-ring.foreignpolicy.com/posts/2012/09/28/panetta_we_ve_lost_track_of_syrian_chemical_weapons

Now they want everyone to forget they said this after Benghazi...but DON’T!!

This isn’t going to end as the cruise missiles into the deserted aspirin factory did, back in Bubba Jeffy Klintoon’s corrupt admin.

Pooty-Poot has some serious assets in Syria, and they’re not going to just stand by and watch their Syrian ally take the hits. TSHTF.

Yep, Obama is way out of his league.

I don't know why but I keep seeing a Zimmerman vs Treyvon juxtaposition here.....hush my mouth.

I agree, this isn't going to end well.
