FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) - The NFL Players Association has filed a grievance to help former New England Patriots star tight end Aaron Hernandez collect an $82,000 workout bonus.
The union says it has a responsibility to protect the rights in the collective bargaining agreement for all players. Hernandez's contract provides for him to receive that amount if he participated in the team's workouts from April to June.

They should offer to pay it if he agrees to donate it to Odin Lloyd’s next of kin.
It’s just a matter of time before pro sports will be a half-way house .. with all the problems that go with it.
Pay on the condition he pleads guilty..
Week by Week NFL looks more like a bad script from WWE except they don’t have a union.
Agree to pay it, But he has to show up in person and provide his prison I’d before he gets the check.

If guilty, I’m good with him frying.
But unless the contract he’s being paid under does not have the necessary out clause, pay him.
It’s either going to Hernandez’s lawyer or to the civil lawsuit that will be filed by Odin Lloyd’s family.
Not one penny will find its way to Hernandez.
This guy must be insane.
I’ve spent my entire adult life chasing money.
And this young man just flushed $6 million - and his freedom - down the toilet.
I feel fairly certain that Hernandez is going to be found guilty. And I think that makes him a dirty, rotten SOB.
However, just as if I was working for a local 7-11 and I got caught-up in a murder charge, if 7-11 still owes me money for time worked, then they owe me that money - REGARDLESS of any murder charges.
I agree with you.
AFAIK a lot of pro sports teams have this to protect the team's image.
I don't know what happened with Michael Vick, but I'd wager that his contract was voided when he was convicted (or maybe even when charged).
NO team wants to be thought to of as "supporting" dog killers or people killers.
And yes I know Ray Lewis was never convicted, but I still think he was involved in that murder.
So all of the slobbering over his career made me sick.
I will always dislike the Ravens because of that.
The players association and union only have one goal. They are clear and honest about it. Represent the interests of their dues paying players.
They are not in the social or criminal justice game.
My point was much more basic ... if a clause exists, don’t pay him, but if it doesn’t, pay him.
Ah, but he showed his peers that he will not be disrespected in the streets.
That's invaluable.
