Detroit Teachers Moonlight As ‘Sugar Babies’ To Offset Wage Cuts

DETROIT (WWJ) - It’s back-to-school season and many Detroit teachers are struggling in the wake of budget cuts and overcrowded classrooms.

According to the National School Supply and Equipment Association, the average teacher spent at least $485 on school supplies for their classroom last year.

So, what are some Detroit women doing to offset their struggles in the classroom? Well, they’re becoming “sugar babies” of course — seeking financial assistance from wealthy men online.

In the Detroit School District alone, 201 teachers are moonlighting as sugar babies to offset wage cuts and job losses, according to dating website SeekingArrangement.com.

Brandon Wade, the website’s founder and CEO, said the average public school teacher registered on the site is between the ages of 28- and 33-years-old, and asks for approximately $3,000 a month in financial assistance from her sugar daddy.

“You can’t expect a teacher to accept less pay for more work than their peers, and then reach into their pockets to fund your child’s classroom,” Wade said in a statement. “But that’s what’s happening. If those are the expectations and pressures we are putting on our teachers in America, than they can’t possibly be judged for whatever extracurricular activities they choose to pursue to stay afloat.”

While the number of Detroit school teachers registered on the website might be shocking to some, it’s actually less than the national average. Wade said the Philadelphia City School District has the highest number of teachers registered on the website at 674, followed by Miami-Dade School District with 507.

“A successful man wants an educated woman by his side, and for this reason, a young, attractive teacher can be a valuable commodity,” Wade said.

Teachers aren’t the only locals trying to find a sugar daddy online. Wade said a majority of the females registered on his website are college students. Earlier this year, Michigan State University made the website’s list of colleges with the most sugar babies.

In case you were wondering, the website describes a modern sugar daddy as a successful and generous man who is willing to pamper and offer financial help or gifts to a young person in return for friendship and companionship. A “goal seeking sugar baby” is described on the website as a girl who “know(s) you deserve to date someone who will pamper you, empower you, and help you mentally, emotionally and financially.”

How smart can they be to be a teacher in Detroit to begin with? Smart teachers would move or never gone there to begin with.

Then there is the fact they are so stupid they have to hook for cash...

Is it a UNION web site?

Actually that doesn’t say much for the Union now does it?
But I guess some of the ‘Reps’ could double as pimps???

Does a Union ‘House of ill Repute’ work on the seniority method?

I would imagine they are reporting ALL their income to ‘Unka Shugah”

More work than what peers? Are some teachers in Detroit making significantly more than others?

I have worked in the Oil Industry for 35 years and have never been offered a benefits package like some teachers have.

As for not being judged for "extracurricular activities", what's next, hit men? ...drug dealers?

Sure, you can be judged to be morally fit or not based on what you do in the community on your own time. Teachers are supposed to be role models.

If you don't like your day job, quit.

And that is OBVIOUSLY NOT a detroit teacher.

So is the NEA complaining that they don't get their fair share of the after school work?

Yo, b!%¢#. Time to hand over your dues. Don't make me union slap you.

the average teacher spent at least $485 on school supplies for their classroom last year.

I never have understood that. That comes out to about $25 per student which is a pittance to the upward (or over) $10k per kid already spent. Squeeze it out of the district or just do without for a year or two and see how the school likes it.

i don’ t think of public school teachers as educated women. or men. i know exactly how tough it was for them in college and it was one of the easiest schools to get a degree from. these people thought journalism was hard. they thought my college, engineering, was incredibly hard, and to do very well, it was.

second, who’s left in detroit that has money for paid escorts? and why would they pick public school teachers? constanty talking about how hard they have it, how under-appreciated they are, how unfair their wages are, how they are professionals even though they are union workers...

“I have worked in the Oil Industry for 35 years and have never been offered a benefits package like some teachers have.”

Here in NJ they are our upper middle class; many a home has gone into foreclosure paying our sky-high property taxes (3/4 of which goes to public school teachers). At least now there is scrutiny of their compensation; a few years ago one of our newspapers published online all of the salaries of all public school teachers in NJ, and many taxpayers have viewed them as the enemy they are ever since.

It’s telling that they would prefer to try becoming “sugar babies” than getting married to some guy, or even moving in with a boyfriend.

This tells me that she has NO ability to attract a gainfully-employed man and make him willing to live with her, yet she has such an enormously over-sized ego that she thinks some wealthy man is going to pay $3K/month for her charming company.

The problem with a lot of Detroit residents is that their egotistical expectations of what they deserve does not match their actual talents.

That’s HER peers, dummy, not THEIR. A teacher is singular.

And yes, you can.

>>the average teacher spent at least $485 on school supplies for their classroom last year.<<

Sooo...roughly $50 a month? I’d hazard a guess that most people incur out of pocket expenses for their job.

>>“You can’t expect a teacher to accept less pay for more work than their peers, and then reach into their pockets to fund your child’s classroom,”<<

Happens in the private sector all the time when budgets get tight. Suck it up and roll with it, buttercup, or get another job.

If I know Detroit, these said “teachers” probably worked as “Sugar Babies” before their teaching careers began. That’s what probably got them through college in the first place.

And Detroit wonders why there’s a problem... These animals are ‘educating’ their children.
