AP Exclusive: Obama offers new gun control steps

Striving to take action where Congress would not, the Obama administration announced new steps Thursday on gun control, curbing the import of military surplus weapons and proposing to close a little-known loophole that lets felons and others circumvent background checks by registering guns to corporations.

Four months after a gun control drive collapsed spectacularly in the Senate, President Barack Obama added two more executive actions to a list of 23 steps the White House determined Obama could take on his own to reduce gun violence. With the political world focused on Mideast tensions and looming fiscal battles, the move signaled Obama's intent to show he hasn't lost sight of a cause he took up after 20 first graders and six adults were gunned down last year in an elementary school in Newtown, Conn.

BTW, I’ve seen some pretty cool SKS stock and receiver cover mods available for them that make them totally different. The mod covers have scope mounts and fancy sights affixed. The stocks aren’t too bad either...

Trick out an SKS for a couple hundred...but worth it IMO if you have an old one cheap.

If you can afford it get a Russian SKS....

True that... I remember about ten years ago when an SKS was an affordable, in-budget weapon. I mean, they're not top of the line, but they are fun to shoot and simple-Simon durable in takedown and care.

“Health Insurance is a right, so we can force you to purchase it, yet the 2nd Ammendment is irrelevent so we can prevent you from executing your right to keep and bear arms!”

Liberal lunacy is insane!

I don’t know what they are now but I can remember them being $99 and packed in cosmoline. Either clean ‘em up and shoot ‘em or they were ready for deep storage. I imagine they’re more now.

If you can afford it get a Russian SKS its’ even legal in Kalifornia.

I can't. And besides, it is only legal in MA if it was imported before 1998. Otherwise, it is verboten.

I can't wait to get out of this shiite hole.

He wants to ban the import because they are popular with patriots instead of gangbangers.

That’s about what my first one cost. Today I don’t think you can find one for under $250. I’ve heard of people asking as much as $500 or $600 for one. I don’t know if they actually sell at that price.

"....proposing to close a little-known loophole that lets felons and others circumvent background checks by registering guns to corporations.

Because the nation is suffering a crisis of gangbangers lined up at the lawyers office to spend hundreds creating a shell corporation just to buy a gun without a background check...INSTEAD OF JUST STEALING THEM OR BUYING THEM FROM THE SHADY GUY IN THE BLACK VAN!

Cabala’s have them for about 170 bucks ... I dunno if that is a good price, but after a review by Nutnfancy I’d buy one.

Pretty much. He wants to disarm any possible opposition to his dictatorial plan.

That approach is awfully obtuse. The businesses don’t know why you’re not buying their product, and if they do know then it’s lost in the background noise of “customers annoyed for weird reasons”. You’re not going to get enough like-minded people in the boycott to make a difference.

Getting on your legislators with “get it right or shut it down” has a much better chance of success.

They might not...but they also might. Won’t make a difference if you don’t try.

I’m not familiar enough with court proceedings to pull it off, but do believe that if very large numbers of owners WOULD file suit, there would be enough disparity in the verdicts that the Supreme Court would have to take the issue(s). Might not like that result either, but either you’ll win or have drawn a very clear line on the subject.

They shouldn’t take anywhere near that long. The delay isn’t administrative, it’s political.
