Obama issues new executive orders against guns (While looking at Syria.....)
The Washington Times ^ | August 29, 2013 | Dave Boyer

Posted on 08/29/2013 12:24:19 PM PDT by yoe

President Obama ordered two more executive actions Thursday to restrict guns, banning the re-importation of military surplus firearms to private entities and proposing a regulation that would close a loophole in background checks.

On the day B. Todd Jones is being sworn in as the new director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the White House said the ATF is proposing to conduct background checks on firearms registered to a trust or corporation. The administration said felons and others prohibited from having firearms currently are able to avoid background checks by choosing this route.

[snip] The orders follow 23 other executive actions on gun control that the White House unveiled in January. In the spring, the Democratic-controlled Senate rejected a proposal to require expanded background checks for gun purchases.

I figure the trust or corporation provision is to go after the guns in the NRA museum.

After all, many crimes may have been committed by those museum guns, or the guns owned by Pinkerton and similar security agencies. Well, we can’t have that.

...the White House said the ATF is proposing to conduct background checks on firearms registered to a trust or corporation.

Why would conducting a background check on the firearm make sense? If it's a new gun, for example, it won't have much of a history

Fortunately, executive orders can be dissolved with the stroke of a pen...if there is ever a Republican President again.

The administration is now saying criminal background checks for employees are “discriminatory” and should be outlawed. So, why not lift them for firearms to? What could possibly go wrong?

NO, the”Trust and corporation” provision is to go after LEGAL machine guns, sawed-off shotguns, short-barrelled rifles, and silencers, that would be bought by people, except that their liberal “Chief Law Enforcement officer” in the area won’t sign permits for Class III purchases. In other words, if your local cops (like the Dallas police!) won’t give you PERMISSION to buy an NFA firearm as an INDIVIDUAL, like a pre-March 1886 machine gun, you COULD still buy one with a corporation or Trust owning it. Now, Hussein Obama wants to close that “Loophole”. Like the so-called “gun show loophole” that also does not exist.

They can only go after them if they are registered.

That leads to an obvious counter measure.

There is no legal requirement to incriminate oneself.

After all, better to let the country crash and be morally pure than to save the country for my children by compromising.

I don't know - the CMP's Garands are re-imported by the US Army - hardly a private entity.

Although Garands are nice, there are better weapons now becoming available with the use of new printing technology.

And since we are talking about weapons that are not registered, one can get some very nice weapons indeed. Fully automatic grenade cannons that home in on evil and use lasers to correct for range!

Since the IRS and NSA don’t obey the law, then I am not required to either.

Of course, it would be nice if the fed gov would follow their laws, and then I would once again feel bound to obey the various constitutional laws.

If you don’t register an NFA wesapon, they go after you on Tax Evasion charges. The transfer tax is $200 per gun, per transfer.

They say I can’t make and own new NFA weapons anyways, so since I can’t legally do it, I can’t legally pay tax on it.

“the administration said it will deny requests to bring military-grade firearms back into the U.S. to private entities,”

So now the country is safe from technologies of 110 year old ’03 Springfields and 75 year old Garands.

See, I didn’t register a NFA weapon.

Most likely, neither have you. Few people own them.

So most of us have not paid tax on transfer of NFA weapons.

That is not in doubt. Let us stipulate that.

Now, there is another element of the ‘crime’ of not paying tax on a transfer of a NFA weapon. They have to prove that one has created or transfered such a weapon.

They can do that with any of us with false testimony.

So we are all just waiting for the corrupt government to take us in. Our question is: Are they corrupt enough to go after me today?

And we will never know until it is too late.

that's got to be at least .0001% of the population.about the same % of carry permit holders committing felonies with guns.

Not exactly.

If you possess an unregistered NFA weapon, they go after you for the crime of possessing an unregistered NFA weapon, which has a 10 year prison term associated with it.

The full auto and short barreled tools are readily available at the appropriate time of our choosing from one’s local police department, free — where no tax or trust or sign off was done for “the only ones” in law enforcement either. The successful raids on police armories by public enemies in the 1930s should come to mind.

I’m pretty sure that this EO only applies to surplus firearms that were initially manufactured in the US, then given to other countries. It shouldn’t apply to the vast majority of surplus firearms imports. Of course, most of those have dried up by 2013 anyway...

In practical terms, this will prevent about 250,000 M1 Garands and Carbines from being imported from South Korea.

Perhaps, although the numbers involved are so small I don't think he'll bother; how many FN-49s or T-40s are being imported these days?

You can still get one, but expect to pay at least $1000 (or so) for a decent shooter...at least twice that for a nice collectable one.

Right. But they also go after you on Tax Evasion charges. Like how they got Al Capone. That was the “little warrant” from the IRS in the US Treasury in the Waco Branch Davidian raid, while the ATF one was the “big warrant”.
