Snowden impersonated NSA officials, sources say
NBC News ^ | August 29, 2013 | Richard Esposito, Matthew Cole and Robert Windrem

Edward Snowden accessed some secret national security documents by assuming the electronic identities of top NSA officials, said intelligence sources.

“Every day, they are learning how brilliant [Snowden] was,” said a former U.S. official with knowledge of the case. “This is why you don’t hire brilliant people for jobs like this. You hire smart people. Brilliant people get you in trouble.”

"How many buckets do you have?"

First, I'll neeed $987,423,894,215,000,000,000,000 dollars to conduct a study to study the study that came up with that question, and of course more money will be needed to conduct the enviromental impact, exc.. will have an answer for you in 3 billion years.

In the meantime, pay no attention to the giant spying eye of the government tracking our every move, let's focus on Edward Snowden.....You're getting sleepy America, very sleepy...go back to sleep. ....Everything is fine . .....Government is goood.......

The problem is not brilliance; it’s quite the opposite. I’m glad Snowden’s brilliance did lead to the NSA revelations. Now, 0-bummer’s stupidity in all matters foreign and domestic has yielded predictable results.

Answer to NSA Security Test: “It depends on how heavy the buckets are!”

This is a joke, albeit a poor excuse for one,

...piss poor security

I'll second that. Having a system where a system administrator can impersonate other users in ridiculous. Haven't they ever heard of two factor authentication? If the story is true, which it may not be, then the NSA security architecture is fundamentally flawed.

Probably the next thing we'll hear is that they keep a single, unencrypted flat file which lists all of their employees, their social security numbers, their passwords, and where they live. And that was sitting on the same network.

I guess the guy who said "Brilliant people get you in trouble" never thought that there might be brilliant people working for other countries like Russia or China in their intelligence agencies.

If the NSA is as inept as they are portraying themselves to be, then our enemies are probably already using the NSA's hardware to collect data themselves.

Odd, I don’t remember any questions like that when I tested for Agency employment 1964.

Very interesting. Snowden might have even been KGB/FSB trained for his mission.

Not for this country. Not at the cost of providing assistance to Russia and China at the expense of the US.

To be in a hostile country like that negates what good work could be done. Now if it were secrets from Russia(which would be quite valuable), he could at least redeem himself.

The only thing that can’t really be squared away is that he’s not being pursued. Either the administration wants him to wreak havoc, or that any effort isn't in the open.

Anonymous Impersonation is an authentication technique. If there was anything akin to an Admin Level service account in the system, that would be the security hole. I am a mere little web developer, and even I know that.
