Many people in Mecklenburg County are not getting their food stamps on time.
The Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services serves 80,000 households on food stamps.
No one is giving an exact number on how many of those are having to wait longer than usual.
Kristi Adams said it's, "stressful, real stressful."
The state admits it's not picking up the tab [food donations], but it is sending out experts to DSS offices across the state to help counties tackle their backlogs.
For example, Union, Cabarrus, Rowan, Iredell, and Gaston counties are each getting two and Mecklenburg County is getting 12.
But Adams said, "They get to go home every night and eat dinner while we have to figure out who we're going to borrow money from to go get groceries."

You have to watch the brief video at the link to get an idea of how malnourished Kristi and her daughter look (/s). I'm not sure what shape the daughter's father is in because he was not mentioned or seen in the story.
I guess nowadays when food stamps are a few weeks late its a story that "Eyewitness News" deems important enough to dispatch an investigative team to the capitol to ask stupid questions (also in the video).

80,000 HOUSEHOLDS ???
Whats that everyone in the county ???
3-4 people per household ???
250,000 people on food stamps in ONE county ???
or is that 80,000 people all told ???
273,416 households, and 174,986 families residing in the county.
So roughly 30% of the County (80K households) is on food stamps.
