He shoulda used the Mohawks who have regular smuggling operation from/into Ontario/Canada from/into New York State but their reservation [Sovereign First Nation] is on both sides of the border so neither the Canucks nor US border patrol can do anything to stop it.
You name it, they smuggle it, plus they all got AK47s and worse.
What about NAFTA and open borders?
Zebra mussels plague my inland area also.
I understand limiting ag pests, but cured meats from italy, chocolates and beer from canada and germany, and spice packets from singapore/malaysia are of no threat to anyone. Even smoked sausage from Costa Rica was no real threat.
It’s not about quality. It’s just plain old protectionism. Canada in this case is trying to protect an inefficient local dairy industry that couldn’t otherwise compete with those just across the border.
Heck, here on FR we’ve got plenty of “conservatives” that have no problem loading tariffs or quotas on imports to protect inefficient industries here in the U.S. it’s the consumers that pay the price and it’s a waste.
