Syria hailed an "historic American retreat" on Sunday, mockingly accusing President Barack Obama of hesitation and confusion after he delayed a military strike to consult Congress.
"Obama announced yesterday, directly or through implication, the beginning of the historic American retreat," Syria's official al-Thawra newspaper said in a front-page editorial.
Syria's deputy foreign minister Faisal Mekdad accused Obama of indecision. "It is clear there was a sense of hesitation and disappointment in what was said by President Barack Obama yesterday. And it is also clear there was a sense of confusion as well," he told reporters in Damascus.

My take is we should let these people fight their own wars - kill each other if they can't make peace - and let Allah sort them out... (as Palin would say..)

If we lost the war and bankrupted our country in the process these people would be cheering. If we won, they would still hate us. There's no win. As for the hundreds who died over there? It's sad, but hundreds died in Chicago last year - and thousands in car accidents. We have issues in our own country.

Yes I agree - but why did Obama beat the drums of war, only to backdown at the last minute? It all seems so ill thought through. Its clear to me Obama was prepared to ignore congress completely when he thought a strike was needed, now he is only using it for a face-saving way out when he changed his childish mind.

This more about the mishandling if this from the outset. He’s boxed himself in too many times, and his vacillating makes him look weak and feckless. The take away from this is that he is a horrible leader, not whether he attacked or not.
