Jesse Marcel Jr, who said he handled debris from the 1947 crash of an unidentified flying object near Roswell, New Mexico, has died at the age of 76.
Denice Marcel said her father was found dead at his home in Helena, Montana, on Saturday, less than two months after making his last trip to Roswell. He had been reading a book about UFOs.
Over the past 35 years Marcel appeared on TV shows, documentaries and radio shows, was interviewed for magazine articles and books and travelled the world lecturing about his experiences in Roswell.
His wife, Linda, said: "He was credible. He wasn't lying. He never embellished, only told what he saw."
Marcel's father was an air force intelligence officer and reportedly the first military officer to investigate the wreckage in early July 1947, when Marcel was 10. Marcel said his father brought home some of the debris and woke him up in the middle of the night to look at it, telling him it was something he would never see again.
His father maintained that the debris "was not of this Earth", Linda Marcel said. "They looked through the pieces, tried to make sense of it."
The item that Marcel said fascinated him the most was a small beam with purple-hued hieroglyphics on it, she said.

RIP Jesse Marcel.

remember seeing him on the many TV programs about Roswell....RIP
RIP.
A scrupulously honest man and a true patriot who loved America. He is also a Christian and I expect to meet him in person someday.
Should put this gentleman on the FReeper Memorial Wall.
Thanks for the link. Jesse had some interesting posts. Always a sad day when we lose a FRiend.
RIP... God Speed
Thanks for the mention.
I am proud to say that Jesse and I were email friends both on FR and privately. Jess served as a Flight Surgeon with Blackhawk crews in Iraq. He once wrote me that he wanted to be remembered as a good soldier. Jess was an American patriot who loved his country and, I’m honored to say, I met Jesse Marcel on FR where we became email friends. Jess now flies with the Eagles as does my husband, Rich, who flew F100’s in Vietnam.

Don’t like seeing good people leave us.
Odd. He wasn’t on the Nut-Job Conspiracy Theory Ping list.
I would have though he’d be a natural!
Yes. Not every 60-something volunteers for war. An extraordinary man.

This story is all over the web but I don’t care about this UFO stuff. I do care that we lost a fellow freeper.
Bttt
“Dont like seeing good people leave us”.
...and a cruise through the “Memorial Wall” will point out just how many of those good people are now on the other side watching what we wish we were privy to. The real history of mankind.
...and they know for certain who wins.
Rest in Peace, Sir. Prayers are being said for you and your family to have peace.
Agreed...
“This story is all over the web but I dont care about this UFO stuff. I do care that we lost a fellow freeper.”
Same here. I don’t give a damn about the UFO-alien crap. He was a Freeper, that’s it and it’s sad to lose one of ours.
RIP Jesse. The truth is out there.
How does one navigate to the Memorial Wall?
Never mind...found it.
One of the wonderous things about this site is that
it puts extraordinary people in touch with extraordinary
people.
Rest in peace. Jesse.
Thx.
Correct. I didn’t even know that a Freeper was in a famous picture I’ve seen since grade school until today. R.I.P jesseam.
RIP, sir.
R.I.P. fellow Freeper.
That was Jesse's dad in that famous picture. Freeper Jesse Marcel Jr. was 10 years old at the time of the Roswell incident.
I have been investigating UFOs for 30 years and was at one time a MUFON official. I met Jesse Marcel at a MUFON symposium years ago. He seemed pleasant, intelligent, and honest. Still, all my research suggests the debris at Roswell was from a then Top Secret Mogul balloon. Jesse Marcel was a young boy when his father supposedly brought the wreckage by to show him. I think it’s possible exposure to all the Roswell stories over the years altered his memory of actual events. I don’t think he was lying so much as recounting faulty memories. In any event we have lost a good man. RIP Dr. Marcel.
The photo with the debris is his father.

Rest in Peace Dr. Jesse Marcel!
(Freeper JesseAM was also a member of the UFO/UAP list.)

RIP, sir.
See post 4
That is why obama likes to rest his feet on our desk in the Oval Office. That is how he shows disrespect to the America People.

From Jesse's homepage: retired army flight surgeon with a 40+ year history of serving in the US Navy and US Army.
Rest in Peace, sir!
RIP, FRiend. Thank you for your courage. Prayers for the family.
Glad you found it. There are many stories there, not all of them spelled out unless you were along for the ride, but I visit at least annually to reflect. Good place for a review of priorities. Many of those left us at very young ages. You will obviously recognize some familiar names and some who were on planes or in buildings and died during 9-11. I don’t think you will find anyone who hated America or sought to destroy this country.
Thanks for your ping to post #4. I didn’t know he was a FReeper. He was an honest and credible man. May he rest in peace.
I traded a couple of Freepmails with Jesse. Quix hooked us up.
