Conservatives to Cruz: 'Run, Ted, run'
The Hill ^ | 09/01/13 12:30 PM ET | Alexandra Jaffe

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) was met with enthusiastic cheers from an "adoring" audience during his address at a conservative summit on Saturday, the friendliest of any of the potential 2016 presidential hopefuls to speak at the Defending the Dream summit.

The event, hosted by Americans for Prosperity, drew a handful of other conservative stars and would-be presidential contenders: Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R ) and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R ) all spoke.

But according to The Washington Post, none received so warm a welcome as Cruz. He was met with chants of "Run, Ted, run!" after giving a speech focused largely on the imperative of defunding ObamaCare, a cause which he and a handful of other conservatives in the Senate have championed in recent weeks.

Cruz slammed fellow Republicans who have criticized the push as potentially politically harmful and pledged not to back down from a threat to shut down the government if the law is not defunded.

“Right now, the people who are fighting the hardest against our effort to defund Obamacare are sadly Republican,” he said. “Over and over again, they say, ‘We can’t win this fight.’ Well, you know — you lose 100 percent of the fights that you surrender at the outset.”

Cruz has fast emerged as a darling of the conservative movement, taking a place somewhat lost by Rubio after the Florida senator took the lead on immigration reform, drawing him criticism from conservatives and leading to a drop in many national polls of the 2016 GOP presidential landscape.

Indeed, Rubio's reception at the same summit on Friday was decidedly less enthusiastic. Though he received cheers for parts of his speech, he was also heckled over immigration reform with shouts of "No amnesty!" from the crowd.

In contrast, Cruz took the stage to a sustained standing ovation and exited to calls for him to run for president.

“Federal law requires certification of a candidates qualifications”

There is no such law.
That is simply a form the DNC used to notify the 50 states who their nominees are so that the 50 states can put the persons on the their ballots.

Federal law does not regulate the National Conventions or how the parties choose to conduct their business.

I read this as Ted saying he never held a Canadian passport.

I agree with your assessment. I’m asking the poster that made the statement that Cruz had a Canadian passport for a link to such proof.

That was a lame attempt at a joke. Sorry if it was unclear. Those on the NBC threads on both sides are well known.

dontreadthis: “Is a child born of an American mother not a citizen of the U.S.? If not, what are the “disqualifying” circumstances?”

I see I’m rather late to these discussions. We had dual citizen children, because they were born when I was assigned overseas in the military. However, neither of them claimed citizenship in the other country when they came of age.

I always considered “natural born” to mean born in the US. In other words, I didn’t think my children were eligible to become president. However, Senator McCain was born in similar circumstances. There’s a good (and seemingly fair) article on it here:

http://www.snopes.com/politics/mccain/citizen.asp

BTW, I do not believe everyone born in the USA is a natural born American or even an American citizen. Illegal aliens who cross the border to give birth are not subject to the jurisdiction of our laws.

In answer to your questions, there’s no doubt that Senator Cruz is an American citizen. The debate is over whether or not he’s natural born, and that issue isn’t quite as clear as the other. However, I’d vote for Senator Cruz given what I know now.

All I can find other than that, on the matter are a bunch of concern trolls who claim He “could” obtain a Canadian Passport, But that is a moot point because Ted is in the process of rebuking his status as a Dual citizen.

In essence, Ted is saying he thought he had given up Canadian Citizenship when he got a US passport.
When he became aware that technically he still held Canadian citizenship, he publicly renounced it and declared sole allegiance to the USA.

That satisfies me.

You might just be right there. I can find no FEC forms requiring certification, only registration and even then nothing really but a name on the form.

Darn, I was trying so hard to find and post this before the ZOT came about.

I was searching for it as I watched Jim's target dodging and weaving as Jim called out his warning to cease and desist, then lined up his shot ....

Oh well, maybe the Zottee can print it out, fill it out, and mail it in by SnailMail.

And for the record, Obama had to have held a British passport when he traveled to Pakistan, since Pakistan was on the no travel list for US passports at the time he went there.

I believe the case is as strong as it needs to be. It’s really pretty simple. You are either a naturalized citizen, or a citizen at birth (natural born).
