[founding fathers] did not throw up their arms or sign a petition....they FOUGHT a WAR....
Actually, in some ways things were the same back then. The majority in the First Continental Congress, 1774, were against the more hawkish in New England, and specifically in MA of all places... and sent a petition to King George. He of course rejected it, and most of the petitioners later joined the others to arms...
