US general says Syria action could be 'more substantial than thought'
The Telegraph ^ | 9/3/2013

General Jack Keane, a former vice chief of staff of the US Army, told BBC Radio 4 that he had spoken to senior Republican senators who had been briefed by the US president on Monday, and had been assured that Mr Obama planned to do significant damage to the forces of Bashar al-Assad.

The Obama administration has previously said that military strikes would not be aimed at toppling Assad's government nor altering the balance of the conflict. Instead, the White House has suggested, they would be intended to punish Assad for the alleged gas attack in Damascus on Aug 21 and to reinstate Washington's "red line" against the use of chemical weapons.

But Gen. Keane said he understood Mr Obama was planning a more substantial intervention in Syria than had previously been thought, with increased support for the opposition forces, including training from US troops. He said the plans could involve "much more substance than we were led to believe".

"But Gen. Keane said he understood Mr Obama was planning a more substantial intervention in Syria than had previously been thought, with increased support for the opposition forces, including training from US troops..."

So almost exactly 12 years after 9/11 we're expending funds, arming, training and putting our people in harm's way on behalf of Al Qaeda? Or am I not understanding what's going on here?

Just remember this, when the Saudi’s buy a president he stays bought.

You have no idea how utterly tired I am of the American Armed forces being used as ‘mercenaries’ or ‘Janissaries’ by the Saudi’s.

substantial intervention in Syria

With all the firepower being brought to bear, it is obvious to me this asshat is planning on destroying most of the infastructure of the Syrian military and perhaps the general population in an effort to “tilt” the scales in favor of the “free Syrian” forces, our enemy. Once he gets his “limited” authorization, this guy who has no bounds will just say so because after all he is the self acknowledged commander in chief except he forgets that is of the US, not the Universe.

Hmmm! I wonder whether these are the same Saudi Arabians we've handed trillions to for oil in recent decades. I wonder whether they're the same Saudi Arabians who sent us terrorists on September 11, 2001. The same bunch? Not?

It's so hard to keep those Saudis straight!

No sh!t. The chemical weapons attack was always just a pretext. The muslim brotherhood lost Egypt and they need a new base of operations.

Yep, good one.

It’s been a long trip for me. But I’ve gone from a full rah-rah supporter of the U.S. in trying to bring democracy and the ‘American way’ to the world to a home-body Isolationist.

I agree with Sarah Palin “Let Allah sort ‘em out”

I believe with all my heart and soul God's hand is one this action. And for me to believe that, it is to understand that Damascus will be a city no more, that America will collapse into 4 smaller kingdoms with no power(which means we lose big time), that muslims rise-up in America and we see Christians slaughtered in the streets and in their beds as they sleep.

Is all right with your soul?

From what I’ve been attempting to decipher over the years it appears they are the same bunch. Or possibly another way to put it, is to say they are a part of the same ‘Family’ with only a bit of difference on how to accomplish the same goals.

I didn’t read EBH’s comments to mean that, at all. I read it to mean he believes Scripture and the prophecy contained therein is likely to unfold.

Where does Scripture, the Bible, say that America will be 4 smaller kingdoms?? I read the Bible every day and have not seen that.
