Bishop Thomas Paprocki is not the kind of Catholic leader who minces words. The prelate, who presides over the Catholic Diocese of Springfield, Illinois, warns that anti-Christian bigotry in the U.S. is on the rise and that the media is to blame.
In this exclusive interview with the Communities @TheWashingtonTimes, Paprocki shared his concerns about the growing hate and hostility for Judeo-Christian values in the U.S. and the attacks on Pope Francis and the Catholic Church in general.
We [Christians] have to mentally adjust. I know it is an adjustment for me because and I assume for many other people as well - because I grew up in this country at a time when the values in our secular world mirrored the values of the religious world, Bishop Paprocki said. And I think whats happening now is that relationship that symbiosis between our culture and the church -has been ruptured.
Paprocki compares todays situation in the U.S. to Christians being persecuted under Communist regimes and even in ancient times.

Such as Christian business owners being bullied by vindictive sodomites.
Not trying to harp on him here, but most of us have understood this for over a decade, and are already thinking about the next steps.
Get the Catholics to quit supporting the American left and democrat party, and perhaps we could change things.
Try decades of Vatican policy that lavenderized the American clergy that very predictably resulted in a plague of child sex abuse.
The hierarchy gets no pass on this. At least not from this fallen-away Catholic.
” Get the Catholics to quit supporting the American left and democrat party, and perhaps we could change things.”
I see what you did there.
I scrolled down to the comments. Some faggot is not pleased.
Then the left will abandon the last pretenses of religious liberty.
Is this why the RCC has deliberately supported communism? They want to be martrys?
It appears I am the only one to read the source column so far. It’s a pity, because the bishop addressed most of the ignorant rants.

Don’t pray fervently or obey God.
Just return to your mind-numbing

Our exile is near.
The Latino vote went 72% for the pro abort prez last election
Maybe the Pope shouldn’t bow to muslim women.
How dare he.
Odd thing about this is that Christianity is always at its best when it is oppressed and suppressed. History shows that the moment an oppressor starts to go after the followers of Christ then that is the moment at which they can identify the beginning of their end.
If the bad days have begun then victory cannot be far behind!
Middle Eastern Christians have been living under their oppressor since the 7th century Arab conquests.
It doesn't look like their end is coming any time soon.
In about a generation we’ve seen large swings, not enough yet but still large, right up till Zero’s election that is. So ya we need to see more.
To understand why Catholics voted Dem so long you must understand the Know Nothings and the roots of the formation of the GOP. Ancient history but still it had an impact.
The GOP’s stance on immigration ( whether its right or wrong aside in its stance) had a lot to do with that.

What a nonsense post, Catholics vote democrat because the party represents their positions and politics, not because of the know nothing party of the 1850s, do you really think that Catholics vote for Barack Obama in the 21st century because they are experts on mid 19th century history and obsessed with it?
Is that why they turned California blue?
The swings you are talking about were Nixon in 72 (not 68 of course), and Reagan related, 1992, 1996, 2000, Clinton and Gore was the Catholic favorite, in 2004 when we were at war and had the incumbency, Bush got 52% of the Catholic vote, probably the best that we will see for the next 100 years or more then 2008 and 2012.
Not really, for instance in 2008 Protestant Hispanics voted 48% republican, in 2004, 56% republican, Catholic and atheist Hispanics are strong democrats, and their vote never varies.
Catholic vote by election (PEW)
2000 50% Gore 47% Bush
2004 47% Kerry 52% Bush
2008 54% Obama 45% Bush
2012 50% Obama 48% Romney
As I said with the exception of ‘08 the Dem/Rep split of the catholic vote since 2000 is very close to 50:50. This is a drastic swing from the 60’s. Between 20-30% swing to the Republican side of the aisle. You point out the hispanic breakdown which infers that among white catholics the break toward R has been a lot stronger than realized.
The strongly anti immigrant, specifically anti immigrant from catholic nations ( in the past the Irish and now the Mexicans), sentiment I spoke of in the late 1800’s still persists strongly in some parts, and that does impact the immigrant voter and their families way of thinking.
The GOP naturally doesn’t want to embrace the immigrants because it feels, correctly, that if it did it would loose elections for the foreseeable future unless it moved toward the liberal side which would be an abandonment of principle and therefore defeat. The problem is perceived as an immigration issue but its more of a reproduction issue. Whites are not reproducing at replacement levels anymore and its contributing to the current voter changes as much as immigration is.
Despite voting (R) in every election of my adult life I have several die hard conservative tea party people who give me heck for being catholic.
Quit fighting against a significant ( as much as 12% of the GOP vote base ) and lets unite against a common enemy.
Your claiming that the 1800s controls the Catholic vote is nonsense, as are any hopes that Catholics will leave the democrat party.
Thanks for listing the same Catholic voting that I listed, the “enemy” are democrats, and the Catholic vote is solidly in that column.
The Catholic vote and Catholic immigration is the hope of the left to end conservatism in America for once and for all.
Catholic Hispanics and Protestant Hispanics vote differently, maybe Protestant Hispanics don’t spend as much time immersed in 19th century American politics, or perhaps they just have different politics and views on social issues.
The only thing I’m posting is facts.
The ‘solidly democrat’ is based on the Catholic voting history in America.
Five exceptions, three of those for an incumbent, and one for Reagan’s veep, does not take the Catholic vote in America out of the democrat column, and we will probably never seem them vote republican again.
They already took California, and the left prays for the Catholics to give them Texas, then it is lights out.
You also keep ignoring the “fact” that Protestant Hispanics vote more conservatively, 56% republican in 2004, a year when the overall Catholic vote went 52% republican, something that you are terribly proud of.
Priests in Red Russia were nailed to the doors of their churches, their eyes and tongues were gouged, they were sawed alive or burned alive. The year was 1917 and on. This "even" shows a comfortable lack of familiarity with the recent history of Europe.
I see the bishop was correct.
No, and personal insults and attacks and name calling shouldn’t be your reaction to conservatives information on democrat voting groups and voting data.
This is a political site voting comes up.
Sounds easy enough. You're an American, right? I say to you, "Get Americans to quit supporting the American left and democrat party, and perhaps we could change things."
Well, what are you waiting for? Just do it!
The title of this article reads, "Catholic bishop warns against rise of anti-Christian bigotry in U.S."
No kidding. Catholics have long been subject to anti-Christian bigotry . Unfortunately, there's plenty of it right here on Free Republic.
This is a political site, a conservative political site, this is the place to discuss a democrat voting church denomination and that we are importing more of those democrats by the millions and tens of millions.
What is weird is why some conservatives here want to prevent this most absolutely relevant political and immigration discussion.
Some not only don’t want it discussed, some don’t even want it known, and some will swear up and down that it isn’t even true if they think they can get away with it, some even try the old liberal tricks of attacking people here with “bigot” to hush discussing this democrat denomination’s voting and effect on stopping conservatism, an effect that the left is counting on to destroy conservative traditional America, once and for all.
It is strange behavior for conservatives to be running into at a place where we are supposed to be discussing and dealing with this problem.
By the way your last sentence is pretty weird but kind of fits what I was saying about what some will do, you think that freerepublic is a hot bed of anti-Christian bigotry?
Obama cause the demise in the next few weeks of 2.5 million Syrian Christians who have survived for two millennia.
