Secretary of State John F. Kerry said Tuesday that members of Congress who refused to authorize retaliatory strikes against Syria would be responsible when the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad gasses its citizens or when North Korea or Iran attempts to use nuclear weapons.

“Do what we want, or we’ll have our Al Quaeda thugs butcher some more people and blame Assad and you for it.”
The implication here is that US intervention with a few cruise missiles could prevent all future deaths in Syria. That’s absurd.
said Thuggies also being in America.
perhaps willing to start fires.
Tell me about it!
Or blow up a random fertilizer plant.
Huh? How is a few missiles at Assad going to stop Iran and NK?
Let's also forget how the Obama diktat refused to do anything about either of those regimes.
I HATE these people.
Did I miss it??? Was Kerry asked what he had done as Secy. of State to gather international support? What coalition has he assembled to share in this great adventure?
Seems to me the arrogance and snobbery toward our strong allies, coupled with the fawning, submissive ring-kissing of third world countries has turned away meaningful support.
It was a long time building and this Secy. can’t pretend that the next few weeks can turn it around.
Really, Lurch? What are ya gonna do—bomb me?
Blackmailing Congress (easy to do) to get them to get behind Armageddon. Idiots like Kerry and his master fail to understand what our first president said about avoiding entanglements in foreign affairs.
Had we stayed out of WWI there would have been no WWII.
No problem! I will hold him and anybody else who signs off on attacking Syria unprovoked for starting WW3.
STFU kerry, you horseface piece of excrement.
True. In the same form, anyway.
But WWII might very well have been fought around 1970 between the United States and an Imperial Germany that had conquered Eurasia, then moved into Latin America, all without our interference.
IOW, the USA against the rest of the world, as opposed to the WWII we all know and love, Germany against the rest of the world.
And who will hold Kerry responsible for any innocents blown to pieces by our bombs.
In this case the cure may well be worse than the disease.
I wonder if he’s also inferring that those of our allies who would not go along with this insanity are also to be held responsible.
Hey John K... FU
And if Assad know’s he’s going down in flames, he could play a real nasty joke such as make sure Obummer hit’s that chemical stockpile of his. At least that would eliminate all the al Qaeda rebels too.
The irony is killing me. John Kerry bashing anti-war protestors. Blaming them for future events if we don’t bomb Syria. Insisting that we should bomb Syria, when there will no doubt be collateral damage, civilians killed.
Bring back the swift boaters to remind us who this guy is.
Do you understand exactly how WWI began? The Kaiser’s Germany had no designs on the rest of Europe.
Britain became a participant only because her imperial nose was out of joint. Everything bad proceeded from WWI and our intervention.
“And if Assad knows hes going down in flames, “
Louis the XIV said, “L’État, c’est moi”. “I am the state.” Absolute rulers see themselves and the state as the same thing. They will hang on until they are killed. If they believe the end is evitable they’ll try to take the state with them. Hitler ordered every brick broken and that Germany would be reduced to a cleared field. Fortunately, Assad can’t do that. If he were to try the same thing would happen as happened to Hitler. The generals said, “Yes sir!” and did nothing.
Pompous ass. Nothing’s changed with this utter disgrace. Note to world... The administration does NOT speak for and is NOT the American people.
How did Kerry go from his traitorous stance on Vietnam to this? He must hate brown people.
So, since the start of the troubles in Syria, Obama, Hillary and John Kerry ARE responsible for every death.
Where am I wrong on this?
This guy is an A-Hole. Time for him to be put on a farm. Pig farm that is.
What a great example of an empty suit! The disgraced Kerry is well versed in the Democrat Play book, especially the blame game!
Not only civilians, but our warriors also. I hate the guy.
Don’t they think over there in the West Wing? Does anyone honestly believe that if Obama does launch his missiles that Assad isn’t going to gas somewhere else in the country just to prove that he isn’t afraid of the U.S.?
#1: BEFORE THE BOSTON ATROCITY:
#2: BEFORE 911:
Germany invaded Belgium - not only taking over a sovereign country (and committing vile atrocities against the populace) but also taking control of Antwerp and the Scheldt.
Britain guaranteed Belgian neutrality not only to curb Prussian and French territorial ambitions but to protect the Scheldt - a deep water port close to Britain that could be used to launch an invasion.
The German Confederation reneged on the Treaty of London when they invaded Belgium and brutalized its people. That vicious land-grab was the real start of WW1.
The Kaiser kicked him out largely because Bismarck believed Germany had gotten where it needed to be, and Willie wanted to keep expanding.
A simple look at the map will show that Germany is by nature a continental power. So what did Willie do? He insisted on creating a High Seas Fleet, not large or powerful enough to actually defeat the Royal Navy, but plenty big enough to antagonize the Brits. What's the most expensive thing in the world? A fleet big enough to piss off your (former) friends, but not big enough to win a war.
Bismarck had created a diplomatic situation where he was allied with Austria and Russia, and on good terms with Britain. Only France was his inveterate enemy. He was the arbiter of Europe.
In less than a decade, he managed to alienate all but Austria, by far the weakest of the major powers, and eventually influenced UK and Russia, the strongest, to ally with France against Germany.
Also, if you've read anything about prewar Germany, they were already headed down the Master Race path. Hitler didn't generate anything new, he just distilled it from existing elements.
If you think a huge victory in the Great War wouldn't have led to increased triumphalism, nationalism and racism in Germany, I think you're confused. It is doubtful it would have been as virulent as Nazism, but the basic spirit would have been similar. The only way to stop this German notion of superiority was the way we did it in WWII, total crushing defeat and occupation.
Then I’m confused and have been for many decades.
Since I am now a tottering PhD in his seventies I have no cogent appreciation of history.
Sherman, you have made me see the light and the error of my ways and the failure of my over seven decades of what I considered was true Conservatism.
Meddling can be a virtue.
Now, smarty, what are we to do about defending THIS nation?
So I guess those who vote for it are responsible for any revenge attacks or dead soldiers?
Only if I can blame Lurch and Baraq for World War III.
Did the Belgians not have an army? Are not sovereign nations supposed to be able to defend themselves?
Thanks to what transpired subsequent to WWI Europe now has a socialist umbrella called the EU to manage the details of running their nation.
It’s gotten so bad that the EU recently edicted that olive oil could not be placed on restaurant tables in the traditional cruet.
Senator Kerry: “Nothing bad happened in Viet Nam after we left.”
Unfortunately tiny little Belgium neglected to build a war-machine capable of taking on the German army. What were they thinking?
Of course one of the many reasons that they didn’t was that Germany had signed a treaty guaranteeing their neutrality.
Belgium was as critical as Berlin or Cuba in the 50s, or the Suez Canal, or the Straits of Hormuz today. The treaty of London - far from being a mere scrap of paper - was vital in preserving peace on the continent. Then Germany tore it up.
If WW1 brought horrors in its train then we must put the blame for those horrors where it lies - on the Germans.
When Atlas Shrugs...
So when are you going to take responsibility for Benghazi?
Pray for America to Wake Up
So when are you going to take responsibility for Benghazi?
Pray for America to Wake Up
Well stated. How quickly those who are easily deceived forget who made the decisions resulting in 4 American deaths.
The causes of this war were so convoluted that even a person possessing your unlimited intelligence can’t possibly explain them.
Russia had signed a pact with the Serbian Kingdom to defend it in case of war. A nut-case Serbian named Princip assassinated Archduke Ferdinand and his wife. Russia didn’t have the wherewithal to come to Serbia’s defense, thereby causing Lenin’s evil to take over.
Britain, who at the time was faltering as a world power, blustered and blustered and finally war was declared. They tried their best, and finally won, to get America enmeshed into their war and, thanks to Woodrow Wilson, got their wish.
Poor little Belgium who figures into this formula for disaster, had the poor fortune to ally itself with the other side.
At any rate if the blame for declaration of war is to be placed then it belongs on Austria’s shoulders and not Germany.
“Britain blustered until war was declared.”
Why use that weird passive voice? Are you trying to gloss over the formidable fact that Germany plunged itself into war by invading Belgium?
Poor little Belgium didn’t ‘have the misfortune to ally itself with the other side’. It had the misfortune to have a tyrannical neighbor in Germany.
Oh. I should have known. Your reside in that little island nation.
Well, aren’t you the unlucky one?
We have a fearless leader who will valiantly lead us into battle. He’s going to send a contingent of fifty troops in order to do an encore of Benghazi, but on a larger scale. Fifty is nothing to sneeze at.
Seriously, I’ve enjoyed our little FR debate and hereby declare you the winner.
(Living in Britain, God knows you need a winner since you haven’t had one since Maggie!)
And if Congress authorizes the attacks and the missiles fly then when Assad still gasses his people again whose fault is it then?
Unhappily, I concur. Ah well, Nigel Farage seems to have the right stuff.
I wholeheartedly agree with Nigel Farage!
