Putin presses US Congress over Syria, says Kerry lied

(Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday the U.S. Congress had no right to approve the use of force against Syria without a decision from the U.N. Security Council, and that doing so would be an "act of aggression".

In remarks that could raise tension further before he hosts President Barack Obama and other G20 leaders on Thursday, Putin also said U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry lied to Congress about the militant group al Qaeda's role in the Syrian conflict.

"They lie beautifully, of course. I saw debates in Congress. A congressman asks Mr Kerry: 'Is al Qaeda there?' He says: 'No, I am telling you responsibly that it is not'," Putin said at a meeting of his human rights council in the Kremlin.

"Al Qaeda units are the main military echelon, and they know this," he said, referring to the United States. "It was unpleasant and surprising for me - we talk to them, we proceed from the assumption that they are decent people. But he is lying and knows he is lying. It's sad."

Why aren’t any of our Generals planning a coup right now? Will they wait to take action until after a no vote and obama pushes full steam ahead anyway?

Imagine a Russian saying such about any past American leader. Would the msm ignore such a statement as they are? (per real time google search - only the blogosphere is picking this up)

These world leaders going at it. Putin going over BO’s head. Now he feels like we do.

Doesn’t conjure up images of Reagan, Lady Thatcher and John Paul II

Well, Putin is wrong. The US Congress can authorize acts of war regardless of what the UN wants. We don’t need anyone’s permission, much like Medvedev (with Putin’s backing obviously) didn’t need our permission when he attacked Georgia.

That said, we hope our elected representatives show proper restraint before they authorize war. They aren’t elected to simply rubber stamp whatever a president wants. Otherwise, why would they need to even vote in the first place? If they’re a rubber stamp, they’re basically handing the power to declare war to presidents. All hail King Obama, eh?

“What’s sad is that our enemies have more credibility than our own government.”

Any chance we could swap a lying Marxist POS (Obama) for Putin??? Putin would know more listen to the American people than Obama does but then he’s already more conservative than McCain, Graham or Obama! What does that tell you about the state of this nation???

I agree with your major premise. I guess it was Harry Truman started us down this tradition of undeclared war. It’s a blight upon the Republic.

After the Benghazi lies, there’s NO WAY I believe what our government is telling us as truth.

It’s plain clear to everybody that al-Quaeda has carried out that chemical attack with the backing of its Saudi sponsors. No wonder Hussein Obama does all he can to eventually de-Christianize the Middle East (10 per cent of Syria’s population are Christians whom Bashar Assad and his late father have always protected), but what’s in it for Kerry, McCain, Boehner and others?
Can somebody explain?

I think we have to be really careful with our attitude toward Putin. Like the Democrats, he doesn’t want the best for our country. Like many here, I enjoy watching him play Obama for the fool he is. I mean, he is the only person I see who is standing up to the dumbbell. At the same time, it is a very serious situation when we have such distrust, and contempt for our elected leaders that we are looking to a former enemy as a leader. I also don’t have any faith Obama knows what he is doing destabilizing all the countries in the middle east. It would be great to think we have intelligent people that think they know where this will end, but this administration is staffed by the least qualified people available.

I absolutely hate admitting this, but I like old Vlad more and more as this Marxist faggot continues to flush America down the world’s toilet.

Same here & the elites/commies has give us something worse in each presidential election so when you hear it can't get worse - it certainly can.

My question also: What is in it for them?

Somebody suggested that J. Boehner might be blackmailed, maybe because of his daughter Lindsay who married a Jamaican construction worker with dreadlocks, weird hats, and at least one drug arrest. As to John McCain, for some reason the words Manchurian Candidate comes to mind.

I agree. The Benghazi lie were over the top. Then the IRS scandals. And we are expected to believe our government that even failed to act when the four Americans were killed?

Qatari gas pipeline to Europe. This may be why many of the euros were for the strikes originally and also why Russia is vociferous in support of Assad. Qatari gas would compete directly with Russian gas which currently enjoys a near-monopoly in Europe.
