After the US paves the way for a Wahhabi Sunni dominated Syria, life for Shi’ites, Sufis and Druze will be just as difficult as it will be for Christians and Alawites.
As rotten as the Assad regime has been — and it has been very, very bad — it didn’t much care to antagonize religious minorities. To Wahhabi Sunnis, the guys who Kerry says are paying the tab for this adventure, Christians are infidels and the other groups are apostates as bad or even worse than infidels.
That’s a legitimate point. The Wahabbi Sunnis are even more ferocious in their persecution of those whom they consider apostates than they are in their persecution of almost anyone else.
At one time, there were countless Sufi shrines all over the Middle East; now, where the Wahabbis go, those shrines are destroyed, the Sheikhs liquidated, and the murids are forced to flee for their lives.
The feeling of detestment is mutual; ask any Sufi what they think about Wahabbis, and the phrase “agents of the devil” routinely pops up.
I agree...always keeping in mind the Sauds want to see Syria as an Islamic State...even if to get our help they agree to a bit more moderate governance, as with Turkey initially,...they will wait because they will at least have a foothold to take it over when ready just as has happened in Turkey.
Imo...there won’t be anything left of Syria as this destruction of the cities and rural communities continues....and when the US strikes all the more damage.
Quite likely then it will be a wasteland for Alqueda and Jihadists to train etc....if anything at all.
As so many have said..there is no good outcome...too late.
