Warning: D.C. cops under orders to arrest tourists with empty bullet casings
Washington Examiner ^ | 5 September, 2013 | PAUL BEDARD

Washington police are operating under orders to arrest tourists and other non-residents traveling with spent bullet or shotgun casings, a crime that carries a $1,000 fine, a year in jail and a criminal record, according to a new book about the city's confusing gun laws.

"Empty shell casings are considered ammunition in Washington, D.C., so they are illegal to possess unless you are a resident and have a gun registration certificate," pens Emily Miller in her investigative book, "Emily Gets Her Gun: ... But Obama Wants to Take Yours."

Under the law, live or empty brass and plastic casings must be carried in a special container and unavailable to drivers. Having one, for example, in a cup holder or ash tray is illegal.

I went to a friend’s father’s funeral at Arlington in 2002. He presented me with a spent blank shell casing from the honor guard. I still have it.

So.....if I had driven across the Memorial Bridge and got stopped, I would have been arrested?

D.C. is its own banana republic.

Someone who gets arrested just needs to file another lawsuit against DC, and let them get smacked down by the Supreme Court, AGAIN. These laws are unconstitutional, how many times do they need to have that explained to them?

The precedent for this is when we let jurisdictions all over say that an empty beer can in a vehicle is the same as a full beer can. Once you let the legislatures rewrite reality using the law, there is no telling where it will end.

The problem is that there is no downside to the tyrants. The blue goons will not face any repercussions. The Politicans will face no repercussions. The only downside is to the poor sucker who gets arrested. That is the whole problem with gun control. There is no downside to the anti-gunners. They are no consequences to them if they lose. If they would actually have something at risk in their anti-gun schemes it would be a bit symmetric, but as it is it's totally asymmetric. The only ones who lose are those of us who value freedom.

Speaking of DC, I wonder whatever became of that guy who loaded a shotgun in DC and showed the video on YouTube?

I heard that a week or so later, a SWAT team stormed his house in Virginia (outside of DC jurisdiction) and took him away, and denied bail because he was deemed “too dangerous”.

I haven’t heard a thing since. Guess he got disappeared?

Everyone mail your representatives and senators with a single .22 casing.
Then call the DC cops.
This should be fun.

I attached a .308 inert round to my coat zipper. Never even got a bad look when I wore it to the school I taught in. In The People’s Republic of Ned Jersey no less.

But it’s not a cartridge case, it’s my pot pipe.

“There is no downside to the anti-gunners. They are no consequences to them if they lose.”

Which is why we need to bring back tarring & feathering, and possibly dueling. Unless there is more at stake for politicians than simply losing their office, they won’t ever behave themselves.

The problem is that there is no downside to the tyrants.

Exactly correct. There is no downside for violating their oath of office. This is because the MSM not only snickers at the *idea* of an oath being a serious thing, but they actually *encourage* violation of the oath.

Those that violate their oath are said to be *realists*, *statesmen*, to have *grown* in office.

The power of the MSM has become a frightful thing, and has been at least since they brought down McCarthy.

you're a cool dude......I live in the west now....I like it...I've been here over 35 yrs...but its different than east or the midwest....

first...its the GREEN.....trees, lawns, bushes...all green....the west is primarily arid or semi arid except along the coast....I do miss the greenery...

and the autumns...there's something about the smell of fall leaves and the cool air.....

and I miss the thunder storms...we get them but not routinely....

I wonder by what authority they do this? Empty shotshells or cartridge casing are NOT ammunition. And to the extent they were, they would be protected by the 2nd Amendment.

Hollowpoint? BANNED in New Jersey. Except for the “only ones”, of course.

I am beginning to think that the Dims want color controlled gun control. Cities with high black crime rates, the city councils scream for gun control. Cities with lower crime rates ..ah, due to lower black resident percentages, well they don’t seem to be so freaked out about ammo or guns.

That sounds like an excellent idea. Drive them nuts by mixing in dented or spit casings of other calibers that can’t be reloaded!

Wondering what the end result of getting caught with a brass solid, machined to look like round would be.
