The resolution authorizing military action in Syria is in danger of failing in Congress, Sen. Lindsey Graham said Thursday.
Speaking in his home state of South Carolina, the Republican senator said he has serious doubts that Congress will back President Obamas call for strikes.
I think if the vote were taken right now, it would be too close to call in the Senate, [and] would surely lose in the House, he told reporters after speaking to constituents, according to .
Graham said Obama is "well short" of the votes he needs in the House because has failed to make the case to the American people.
Mr. President, youve been uncertain, youve been unclear, youve changed your mind, he said. You have to now come out with a certain plan and a resolve that I have not seen.
Graham, who is up for reelection in 2014, supports a limited military strike on Syria. He told reporters he plans to host a dinner on Sunday with Vice President Biden and more than a dozen Republican senators to discuss the matter.
Obama is scrambling to round up support in Congress for his Syria plan. With opposition building on Thursday, he canceled a planned trip to Los Angeles so he could remain in Washington to round up votes.
Graham said a strike against Syria would only be successful if it accomplishes three things: changes the balance of power in Syria, helps the opposition and gets other countries in the region involved.
Saudi Arabia should be paying for this, he said.
Graham was also critical of Obama's statement that a strike will be effective even if it doesn't come soon.
When I hear from our military leadership that we can be just as effective 30 days after chemical weapons were used as if it were quick, Im just baffled, he said.
Dont you believe that [Syrian President Bashar] Assad is moving all of his equipment around? Dont you believe that hes preparing for a strike? he said.
equals victory for the American people. If nothing yet has convinced the American people that it is way past time to clean out the entrenched career traitor politicians in DC, this thoughtless junkyard dog approach toward attacking Syria thus starting WW3 should do the trick. The obozo's mission is to collapse the US and dismantle the US military, so far he's doing a bang up job. Old Daddy Bush, the Rothchilds and the Rokefellers must be really proud of their NWO boy in the WH.
Excellent, potlatch!
That red line reflects all Obummer’s policies perfectly, he’s a flexible liar.
Lindsay must be a Godless faggot, which explains why he thinks government is God and killing Christians is a must in Egypt and Syria. Ahole.
What a total immoral fool this man is. He'll have the blood of our soldiers on his hands if he sells their use to another country.
Would the soldiers be violating their oath to defend the US if they refused to fight for another country that paid for their deployment?
we need to beat him in the primary.
Thanks jazusamo. I just made that and you are the first to see it. His LIES have to be BROADCAST all over. Flexible liar for sure!
Good. Next stop, Miss Lindsay’s re-election.
I really hate the idea that some other country, especially an Arab one, would pick up the tab for this. If Saudi Arabia is gonna pay for it - they should at least provide soldiers and airmen to help carry out the deed.
Yep. I bet a lot of corrupt senators and house members are suffing Arab cash in their freezers, like Jefferson from LA. These hacks would sell their
daughters for cash.
That statement truly is despicable and him being a JAG officer should realize it.
I guess with him, McCain and many other Republicans it really is just all politics.
You’re correct, especially money.
The Bastard Graham is SOOOOOOOOOOO eager to
support al Qaeda against the American people.
“I always wanted to fight a desperate battle against incredible odds...”
Send Grahman and his family members to the war in Syria. No one is stopping them.
