Russian warships enroute to Syria

Russia has kept a constant presence of four warships in the eastern Mediterranean coast

AFP Published: 18:47 September 5, 2013 Gulf News

Istanbul: Three Russian warships crossed Turkey’s Bosphorus Strait Thursday en route to the eastern Mediterranean, near the Syrian coast, amid concern in the region over potential US-led strikes in response to the Damascus regime’s alleged use of chemical weapons.

The SSV-201 intelligence ship Priazovye, accompanied by the two landing ships Minsk and Novocherkassk passed through the Bosphorus known as the Istanbul strait that separates Asia from Europe, an AFP photographer reported. The Priazovye on Sunday started its voyage from its home port of Sevastopol in Ukraine “to the appointed region of military service in the eastern Mediterranean,” a military official told the Interfax news agency.

Russia, a key ally of Damascus, has kept a constant presence of around four warships in the eastern Mediterranean in the Syrian crisis, rotating them every few months.

It also has a naval base in the Syrian port of Tartus whose origins date back to Moscow’s close relationship with Damascus under the Soviet Union.

Imagine how interesting this could get if the Ruskies have the capability to knock down freshly launched Tomahawks with ships positioned between US ships and the coast?

After all - Tomahawks are not that fast.

Russia has plenty of time to get some of it’s new toys in place. GPS jammers, some of the new counter-Drone electronics, their own UCAV’s, all the goodies they have been said to be working on.

Don’t forget that the drone that was downed in Iran gave the Russians and Chinese lots of good intel to create counter-measures with.

Wonder if anyone is using underwater drones that mimic Russian subs.

Imagine being in command of a US Destroyer and getting false readings of Ivan surrounding you.

The homo moslem CIC is pathetic.

Saab — yes, Saab — has built an amphibious drone meant to keep submarine crews on their toes.

The Saab AUV62 is a highly sophisticated autonomous underwater vehicle that mimics a submarine, allowing navies to train for anti-submarine warfare as realistically as possible without blowing up expensive submarines.

Though it’s an unmanned vehicle, the AUV62′s unique acoustic payload means it will show up on sonar screens as an enemy sub. It’s essentially the underwater equivalent of skeet shooting, except with torpedoes.

According to Saab, the battery-powered AUV62 can either be preprogrammed to follow a particular underwater route, using collision detection to avoid other vessels, or a remote operator can control it using either a radio or acoustic link. It can travel at speeds as fast as 20 knots, and it can descend to more than 1,640 feet below the surface. It’s possible to launch the AUV62 from the shore, from a submarine, or from a ship — as shown above.

Though several military customers have already ordered AUV62s for anti-submarine target practice, the undersea Saab has abilities other than getting blasted out of the water during training missions. Depending on how it’s configured, it can be used for minesweeping and reconnaissance. The Swedish military has already deployed the AUV62 for such purposes

The Kirovs carry twelve octuple S-300F launchers with 96 missiles, and a pair of Osa-MA batteries with 20 missiles each.

If “Peter The Great” is in the area, she has the new Russian Anti-ballistic missile, as well.

Let us see. Russian warships, Chinese warships and American warships all in close proximity to a country involved in a civil war. Warnings have been given by Russia and China for us not to bomb Syria. The Clown has threatened to bomb Syria despite the warnings.

Add to the above explosive mix the fact our nations Commander in Chief is an intellectual midget with poor impulse control and a creature of corrupt propensities. His administration is loaded with Equal Opportunity Advisers, corrupt political hacks and in Kerry's case a treasonous disposition. Congress is threatening to veto the Imbecile's wishes and the public quite properly wants America to stay out of Syria. Thus we have divided counsels. In addition who trusts the foul bast*rds that compose Congress anyway. I think a real mess may be coming up.

Obama will sit with his political advisors to see if there is any upside to his fragile ego if he escalates this to war. If not he’ll run like the transgender queen he is. Otherwise he’ll start WWIII along with all his 60’s peacenik advisors. 200,000,000 will die in that region. Someone will set off a nuke and there will be a chain reaction.

REPORT: CHINA SENDS WARSHIPS TO COAST OF SYRIA Part of channel(s): Syria (current event)

China has reportedly sent warships to the coast of Syria to “observe” the actions of US and Russian ships as tensions build in preparation for a potential military strike on Syria which could come as soon as next week.

According to the Russian news outlet Telegrafist.org, the People’s Liberation Army dispatched the Jinggangshan amphibious dock landing ship and the vessel was seen passing through the Red Sea towards the Suez Canal, the waterway in Egypt that leads to the Mediterranean Sea and waters off the coast of Israel, Lebanon and Syria.

According to the report, the ship has not been sent to engage in any aggressive actions but is merely there to “observe” the actions of Russian and US warships. However, the Jinggangshan is equipped for combat, is armed with missiles, and was utilized as part of a “show of force” in maneuvers aimed at defending the South China Sea earlier this year.

The report states that additional PLA warships have also been sent to the region but that their identity is unknown. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=003_1378409479
