Politico has an eye-opening piece today revealing the extent to which the White House is staring defeat in the face over Syria. According to the influential Washington-based publication, President Obama doesnt have the votes in the House of Representatives to secure a win, with large-scale opposition among Republicans, and lukewarm backing among Democrats:
If the House voted today on a resolution to attack Syria, President Barack Obama would lose and lose big. Thats the private assessment of House Republican and Democratic lawmakers and aides who are closely involved in the process.
If the Senate passes a use-of-force resolution next week which is no sure thing the current dynamics suggest that the House would defeat it. That would represent a dramatic failure for Obama, and once again prove that his sway over Congress is extraordinarily limited.
The loss would have serious reverberations throughout the next three months, when Obama faces off against Congress in a series of high-stakes fiscal battles.
If Obama doesnt get Congressional backing for military action, he could still go ahead with strikes against Syria, but it would be a huge political gamble. It would probably be a bridge too far for a president with sinking approval ratings, and his party facing crucial midterm elections in 2014.
A defeat in Congress would be a massive blow to the Obama presidency, as well as to the presidents personal credibility, and could well amount to the biggest humiliation of his career so far.

Then the house needs to get back and vote today because the traitor-in-chief will go ahead and strike before the vote to bypass congress and the will of the people!
The bill will pass if that is really what the kenyan wants. Pelosi can always whip the votes she needs and will get the Dems to vote for it. Then enough GOP votes will peel off and the stinking pile of a bill will get passed. Everybody in leadership wants it passed. The only question is if the kenyan really wants the green light from Congress.
Most of the democrat(and republican) congress men and women care more about their own political career than they do about voting with the president. They remember the smack down they took in the last off year congressional elections.
Keep in mind many democrat voters do NOT vote in off year elections. They know if they vote for war with Syria and the SH*T hits the fan, their opponent in the 2014 primary and election will hammer them with it. They do not want to fall off the gravy train and actually have to go get a real job. Then they will have to give up that special parking place at Reagan airport.
Let’s hope it’s his demise in Congress, as we cannot afford to pass an amnesty bill.
Which is why they won't vote today.
Baraq will delay the vote.
Any way he can.
He will tie it to any other bill.
The man is desperate.
I suppose the Ministry of Propaganda is busy cooking up some fake atrocity to try to get people on board.
“Barack Obama is heading for a humiliating defeat over Syria”
But that is the point of the whole thing.
What will he give up to get this vote I wonder.
He wouldn't give up much just to get a vote. He might give up a lot to get a FAVORABLE vote.
I can see the negotiations now: "I'll give up ObamaCare, if you'll approve the war".
Of, course, negotiating would actually require a spine on the other side.
There is nothing more dangerous than a power-mad, petulant, immature, racist, narcissist. Evil will run free when this little bastard boy responds to being rejected.
Will the military act if congress says “no”? If they don’t, what happens?
He has enough asskissers in the mix to ensure someone will pass down the order.
This thing is on cruise control now with the Stratego Ace Obama verses the World Grand Master Chess Champions. Pray for American.
And after the attack he’ll tell the republicans “You actually believed me when I said I’d sacrifice obamacare? You’re even dumber than I thought you were.”
This guy has stepped in it, Big Time!
