House Might Not Vote on Obama’s Syria Resolution
National Review ^ | 9-6-13 | John Fund

Posted on 09/06/2013 8:23:58 AM PDT by quimby

Congressional aides in both parties tell me that the chances of President Obama winning House approval for military action in Syria are so bad they actually doubt the House would ultimately vote on it if failure seemed certain.

Two new whip counts of House members by ABC News and the liberal Firedoglake web site show a majority of House members firmly or leaning against intervention. The Washington Post’s more conservative count stands at 204 “no” votes, only 13 short of the majority needed to kill the president’s request.

It's pretty bad. But if it never comes up for a vote the media can ignore it more easily. And they will.

I was just having a conversation with someone where I pointed out that the days of the media sycophants blaming Bush or Republicans have pretty well passed since it's makes them look foolish and desperate and now they provide cover for their fellow traveler by suppressing the (grim) news-- the truth; whether the topic is the Obama Depression or his foreign affairs dithering and inevitable mismanagement, seemingly driven by a "worst practices" philosophy.

Or, shorter, in hindsight we discover that from his best thinking flows ineffectual actions as everything he touches simply turns to a vile pile of steaming crap.

Where this is going is seriously beyond the party politics of it.

If Obama wants to attack Syria and Congress issues an AUMF, we’re good. (Very bad policy, but the State remains in place).

If Obama wants to attack Syria and Congress says “no”, and he then doesn’t attack Syria, we’re also still good.

But if Congress votes him down and he does it anyway, and Congress does not impeach and remove him, we have a major, full-blown, world-historical crisis (world-historical because of the stature of the US). What would happen then, no one knows.

ALL wisdom including the supreme leaders of Russia, the Catholic Church and 90% of th US population Know this is not a limited action.

Our military has no statement saying that this is a sensible action.

The SOS is ridiculously incoherent about the purpose of this action

So, no. This isn’t some fender bender where sleazy lawyers can come along with a lot of legal fencing in

No sale

“I don’t think the 80% of Americans against any action will see it that way.”

And I hope you are right. I’ve made my opposition to this fiasco well known to my supposed wise men in DC representing the state of Tennessee. I will never vote again for any politician casting a yes vote for this debacle.

Tell Bonehead to bring it to a vote or he is out as Speaker.

The American people want a vote.

Agree...

They may not even vote at all, and still get the war.

Ain’t representative democracy in a republic grand?

It is unbelievable that we are going to help Al-Qaeda and the radical Muslims. Can we really believe the propaganda coming out of our govt anymore? Everything we get is a lie...for those who have the courage, the following is a link to the murder or two children in cold blood by the terrorists that McCain et.al. want us to back. Warning: not for the faint of heart but it shows the truth of what America has become when we defend the guilty and murder the innocent. Pray for God’s justice.

“I just don’t believe that if defeat is certain, the House leadership will want to see a president utterly humiliated on the House floor in a public vote,” one top aide to the Republican leadership told me.

Is everything they do and dont do in DC centered around protecting Zeros feelings and image? Hmm I thought Congress existed to protect Americas citizens....

“They may not even vote at all, and still get the war.”

Is there any doubt that if the President were a GOP’er the Commurats would vote on it in a heartbeat to embarrass him? They would be howling from the rafters of the Capitol building about how he couldn't get any support. Nope. Bonehead needs to let the vote go forward. Anything other than that should have him tarred and feathered.

“I still think that Obama has as much of a chance of being impeached as hell has of freezing over.”

Yes, I agree.

So, if Obama defies Congress and issues illegal orders, and not every field commander sees eye to eye, we could be in deep doo-doo in a hurry.

I’m tired of the “NO” vote. I’m tired of the “here” and “present” vote. I voted for these politicians to make decisions. Not sit on their ass and do nothing.

It should be made illegal for anything other than a “yes” or “No” vote.

If Congress says 'no', think Obungle will abide by it? He tends to double down when told he can't/shouldn't do something. A particularly thin-skinned narcissist who has managed to smear egg on his pwn face and who throws petulant temper tantrums at the drop of a hat if he doesn't get his way. is likely to be really, really upset if he's told 'no'. He doesn't not have America's best interests at heart, only his own. Here's a different point of view on why maybe you don't want a vote:

If Congress won’t punish Obama for defying it on Syria, they should refuse to vote

Anyone who believes that bombing someone is limited is not thinking. There is always a chance of retaliation. In this case the retaliation does not have a Geneva Convention limit, as these guys don’t think about the GC . Our civilians, in addition to our precious military is at risk in such a case

And that’s any case.

This is seen by the world’s leaders as aggression I see it as aggression.

The president simply does not have the authority to act aggressively, so you might as well forget it

Just throwing it out there but, considering Obama has ZERO allies on this and is doomed to certain failure, why not give him his yes vote and watch him twist in the wind.

There is no way in hell he will proceed with any meaningful exercise. He doesn’t have the balls.

On the other hand, he could lob a half-a-billion bucks in Tomahawks on empty targets and sit back while the MSM treats him like the second coming of Alexander the Great.
