House Might Not Vote on Obama’s Syria Resolution
National Review ^ | 9-6-13 | John Fund

Posted on 09/06/2013 8:23:58 AM PDT by quimby

Congressional aides in both parties tell me that the chances of President Obama winning House approval for military action in Syria are so bad they actually doubt the House would ultimately vote on it if failure seemed certain.

Two new whip counts of House members by ABC News and the liberal Firedoglake web site show a majority of House members firmly or leaning against intervention. The Washington Post’s more conservative count stands at 204 “no” votes, only 13 short of the majority needed to kill the president’s request.

They better vote, and they better vote NO!

If they don’t, Odumbass will take that as a reason to continue

PERFECT!!!

Prevents Obama from hiding behind GOP Congress, or blaming them for his in-action!!!

Doesn’t set precident of denying him the authority to act.

He said he doesn’t need their authorization!

I’m waiting for him to claim that without the vote, he’s unable to discern the will of the American people....

If you can’t figure out how our elected representatives have decided, by virtue of this in-action, then a billboard wouldn’t help.

Yes, I know, you want your guy on the record...big deal.

I pay them to vote. Do their duty.

They're betting you'll keep on paying them no matter what.

“What am I missing?”

The elites don’t believe the people should have any say in anything, so they’d prefer that the voice of the people not be heard, and the people speak through their represenatives in the House.

The idea that the people would rebuke the president is abhorrent to them!

Seems like he’d be humiliated anyway.

It's pretty bad. But if it never comes up for a vote the media can ignore it more easily. And they will.

“I just don’t believe that if defeat is certain, the House leadership will want to see a president utterly humiliated on the House floor in a public vote,” one top aide to the Republican leadership told me.

The shameless, America-hating rats would be chomping at the bit to humiliate a Republican president.
The House MUST vote, or get rid of the spineless leadership immediately. GOP reps must DEMAND a vote.

Actually, the Democrat newsrooms would spin the story to paint the Republicans as racists, cowards, and traitors, etc.

Why is the Republican leadership trying to prevent Obama from being humiliated?

The excuse they are using:

The international damage
that will be caused by leaving 'egg on Barry's face'
will harm the USA.
IOW, we must go to war to
prevent Obama's international embarrassment.

Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel. This is the GOP's chance to own Obama for the rest of his term. Apparently, the leadership prefers to keep the sweet deals going.

It sounds like they are giving obama room to carry out an attack on his own. He can say he had to act when congress couldn't get its act together and vote on something so important. If congress voted no obama would have to defy them to attack Syria. It seems cowardly to me.

He played the vote to put the burden on the House, so pick up the burden and vote. He will NEVER appreciate a face saving move by the GOP so all the other important things coming up are still going to be contentious.

Well the British Parliament didn’t seem to be too worried about how it would look.

BHO is and has been a daily humiliation to the USA since the day he took office what else would be new?
