House Might Not Vote on Obama’s Syria Resolution
National Review ^ | 9-6-13 | John Fund

Posted on 09/06/2013 8:23:58 AM PDT by quimby

Congressional aides in both parties tell me that the chances of President Obama winning House approval for military action in Syria are so bad they actually doubt the House would ultimately vote on it if failure seemed certain.

Two new whip counts of House members by ABC News and the liberal Firedoglake web site show a majority of House members firmly or leaning against intervention. The Washington Post’s more conservative count stands at 204 “no” votes, only 13 short of the majority needed to kill the president’s request.

WOW!!

They know it will lose so they just won’t vote and Obama can have his little war.

Bonehead needs to resign in shame now.

Seems like he’d be humiliated anyway

Well, he might be humiliated anyway, but if he did it after a "no" vote, we'd be in completely unknown territory.

Boehner wants (obviously) to prevent a full-blown regime crisis.

Incorrectly

He is answerable to the Constitution and he has no authority in that case to foost us into a war.

He does not own the military. That’s a dictatorial notion

What a cowardly bunch of good-for-nothings are warming the seats in the House! That is as bad as Obama voting “present.” Any Republican who doesn’t have the testicular fortitude to vote on this matter should be replaced in next year’s primary.

Why is the Republican leadership trying to prevent Obama from being humiliated?

That's not it.

If the House votes "no" and Obama orders military action, he will have to be removed.

Boehner dreads that, more than anything.

I emailed Raul Ruiz in Dist 36 Palm Desert, CA and he responded in a wishy washy way, speaking of the horrors of the Assad attack on his own people. In congressional jibberish he intimated (IMHO) support for the pResident.
Any others around here, let him know what you think....

>> Maybe I’m missing something. What exactly is showing weakness by having a congressional vote on an issue?

I didn’t get that either.

Note that it’s an aide babbling for the camera... throwing out statesman-sounding gobbledygook.

You could pull a muscle in your brain if you try too hard to map it onto any known logic system.

Dreads that? Hah! He has been told to avoid that, told by the people that hold his ‘secret’ files. Bonehead is an owned whore.

“PERFECT!!!

Prevents Obama from hiding behind GOP Congress, or blaming them for his in-action!!!

Doesn’t set precident of denying him the authority to act.”

I agree with you — it’s about elections in 2014 and how O will use their votes to attack them. I don’t know the answer — but ALL of them are thinking of 2014.

If they don’t vote, Zero will claim apathy on the part of congress and proceed under executive order.

You would be hard pressed to find someone who detests this president’s and DNC policies more than I but as an AMERICAN (no hyphens or special group) we MUST have a vote and if Obama loses that vote I don’t see why it should have anymore significance and the British Parliament vote.

You present your case and if the people’s representatives decide against you (and it looks like a bipartisan no vote) you just move on. After 5 years of giving the boy president everything he stamped his little feet for it is time for our reps to actually represent US and vote not take the coward’s way out and refuse to vote.

I don’t seen a crisis in GB after their vote.

Congressional Leadership usually does not schedule a vote (on something they support) they know they will lose.

Why is the Republican leadership trying to prevent Obama from being humiliated?

Because Obama has all the NSA/CIA/FBI files/dirt on all of the Republicans - blackmail. It worked on Judge Roberts vote on Obamacare, it will work again here.

“...if defeat is certain, the House leadership will want to see a president utterly humiliated on the House floor in a public vote,...”

In that case, we should melt the Representatives’ phone lines and DEMAND a public vote.

This clown wants to start a war, and he should be held publicly accountable for it.

Lives are at stake.

Too effing bad if his poor little ego gets bruised.
