Ka-Ching! CVS Settles Racist Receipt Lawsuit
the smoking gun ^ | Sept 5, 2013

Posted on 09/06/2013 10:50:36 AM PDT by kevcol

In her lawsuit, Lee--who describes herself as an “adult ethnic Korean”--recalled that when she picked up photos from a CVS pharmacy in February, she was “shocked, stunned, mortified, humiliated, and severely distressed” to discover that her name had been changed to “Ching Chong Lee” on a receipt attached to an envelope.
.
.
....CVS official apologized for Lee’s “experience with the photo staff” at the Egg Harbor City store in southern New Jersey. The employee noted that “this incident will be addressed at store level,” and added that a worker identified as “William” will be “counseled and trained.”

I remember once visiting a grocery store where the cart kid's nametag read "Dung". Can this person sue his parents for $1m for the name they gave him?

The excerpts left out her real name.

Sounds like it could have been an innocent mistake to me. Why are such trivial things worth millions??

I once stepped onto an elevator at an Air Force hospital and there she stood all 5’1” of her and her name was Major Wang. It was all I could do to not bust out laughing.

I am sick to death of people who spend their lives looking for evidence they have been victimized so they can assuage their hurt feelings with somebody else’s money.

I worked with an engineer once who’s name was Hong Dong, I could not call him by name with snickering.
He finally said just call me Bob.

Okay, the employee was wrong to do it, but to respond so strongly is just immature.

What a hurtful thing to write on her receipt. If I couldn't spell her name I would have wrote it as something normal like Patty Rice.

She'd better not visit Baltimore, where they call everybody "Hon."

Some moron trying to be funny. He should pay with his job, as I’m sure there’s something in the employee handbook about not insulting customers.

I went to high school with a Wang. He said it was pronounced like Wong. If Wang is Wong, then Wong must be wight.

I once saw a photo exhibit at Brookes Institute of Photography by a “Harry S. Dong”. Ok, he tried to use his middle initial to separate the names, but it didn’t work.
