For the first time in a decade, immigration flow to South Texas greater than Arizona
NBC Latino ^ | 09/07/2013 | Monica Ortiz Uribe

A costly game of cat and mouse unfolds nightly along the banks of the Rio Grande in South Texas. The number of immigrants crossing illegally there has doubled in the last four years, making it the busiest section along the Southwest border.

As night fell outside Mission, Texas in late August the Rio Grande looked deceivingly peaceful under the glimmer of a full moon.

Suddenly through a pair of night vision goggles, a Border Patrol agent spotted movement. He picked up his radio. “Ey, can you tell what’s on the raft,” he said.

On the river ahead of him a mother and her two infant boys floated across on a raft. She scampered onto U.S. soil, but her taste of success was brief. She was apprehended and ended up in the back seat of a Border Patrol suburban.

The woman had traveled from Guatemala. She told the Border Patrol she was on her way to reunite with her husband in the United States. Her fate will now be a detention center and likely deportation.

This year, Border Patrol has detained nearly 200,000 people from Del Rio to Brownsville. While apprehensions across the southern border are at record lows, South Texas is the one spot where the numbers are rising again. “We could apprehend anywhere between 100 and 200 a shift,” said Mark Foster, a Border Patrol supervisor. “On the weekend its very hard to get all the incursions dealt with, with the manpower that we have.”

In response to the increased traffic the Border Patrol is shifting more manpower and resources, like night vision technology and mobile towers, to South Texas. By the end of this year the Rio Grande Valley Sector expects to have 600 more agents.

I want to ask you a direct question miss

Why would you come on a conservative forum and spread a canard like that?

Its just wishful thinking...not fact based at all...no matter how many nice Mexicans you know....don’t we all?

Hispanics are not trending GOP

Bush got maybe 40% if you were to believe lying Karl Rove in 2000 and that mostly due to his Texas governorship where he was popular and the fact there were still enough older Cubans not yet dead

In 2008 Hispanics in Texas voted 66% Obama and in 2012 they voted 71%

We have seen the myth you just stated promoted here for years....and it has caused vitriol

It was a myth in 2003 and 2005 and its still a falsehood now

Not one....zippo...Nada....not one what folks call a non white minority sub group votes majority GOP anymore and in fact all are trending the other way

They have bought lock stock and barrel that they are victims of white Christian western civilization and discrimination and that the USA was founded on social injustice and at the cost of their toil and blood and they were deprived and they are owed and this is across the board

Not just clumsy cultures like blacks or Mexicans

But even Japanese..... Vietnamese.... Sikhs.....Koreans....Cubans....

Groups we associate with cultural integrity and success

Their younger members have fallen for the progressive chum drogue in the water

It is a major change....a tipping point

You really need to study up on where we are....I can back up everything I just stated

I wish you were right...believe you me

The Dems know Texas is their end game

If there was one ethnic block the GOP supposedly had all locked up, - it was those Cuban-Americans in Florida.

In 2012, Obama carried the Cuban-American vote in Florida, - easily.

According to one exit poll, he carried it by a 21 point margin.

Without Texas anchoring the electoral map for the GOP, the Republican party will go the way of the Whigs.

“Why would you come on a conservative forum and spread a canard like that?”

Well, gee, I come on this conservative forum because I am a conservative, been a member for years. I posted the information because I know it’s true, I know what our state party is doing in Texas as my best friend is vice chair of our state party, and the trend is documented here as well as is what the state party is doing and why the national Democrat Party is failing in Texas:

Maybe because the Republican party is moving left. I’ve got Hispanic kin. They are NOT becoming conservative, trust me.

But the Republicans will move as far left as they can to get as many of them as they can.

And at that point politics and political parties in TX will resemble those in the NE. Left and Lefter.

I personally know the leaders of our Texas party, and they aren’t moving left and neither are our SREC members who run the party along with the officers. Each district elects a male and female SREC member at our state convention and they become the “managing board” of the party so to speak. I would say liberal Republicans do not get elected to those jobs.

State convention Republican delegates are elected to go to convention by their county party and seldom, if at all, would a liberal Republican get elected to go to state convention. That is where it starts to determine who works at the state level for our party. I have been to many state conventions and never voted for a liberal Republican to any office and I don’t think any other delegate would.

As far as Hispanics go, we cannot force millions back to Mexico - that is impossible to do and not going to happen. In Texas, we need a worker program for the ones coming across legally and working. They don’t get citizenship. Employers must identify everyone they hire and it be illegal to hire illegals without a worker permit and the employer gets fined a hefty fine if they do it.

In a town where I used to live years ago, I went to a nice Mexican restaurant. While I was there, a few male Hispanic employees left with some men. They were illegals and had been caught because that restaurant hired them and the restaurant was now in trouble with law enforcement. I’m sure they wouldn’t hire anymore illegals since they had been caught doing that. If illegals can’t get a job, most will go back to Mexico. Naturally, any illegal who has a criminal past or commits a crime should be punished and also sent back to Mexico once he gets out of jail or prison. No system will be perfect but it will be much better than it is now.

To see what Texas politics will look like in 15 years if we get amnesty, look at Mexican politics.

Why on earth does anyone think they will behave differently here?

The right wing Mexican political party is socialist. The left wing is pure communist.

If Mexicans were conservative, they’d be conservative in Mexico. They’re not.

They also have an out of wedlock birth rate that is nearly as much as inner city blacks, when separated from the ‘Hispanic’ number that includes Cubans and Colombians. There is an entire line of maternity Quincenera dresses for heavens sake. Enough of the little darlings are promiscuous enough at FOURTEEN to be pregnant enough at FIFTEEN to need a maternity dress for their fifteenth birthday party. This is a cultural thing. If the culture didn’t support this they wouldn’t be doing it.

No way all those baby mamas will be voting conservative. Or their kids, having been raised on the teet of the state.

A majority also support ‘marriage equality’.

Republicans will have no choice if they want to continue to have a say in state elections.

You will be like California. For much the same reason. Unchecked Mexican immigration.

I see you live in New Jersey. Texas is a different world than New Jersey.

The facts on the ground in Texas right now is documented at the link below and I expect the party to keep growing at an even faster rate than it is now and retaining its conservative values. I don’t care what Mexico is doing. If one is smart, cares for his/her life, a conservative would keep quiet in Mexico.

I don’t live in NJ. I grew up in the SE and live here now. I’ve seen what Mexican immigration has done to little towns in MS.

I will tell you what happened in my little town in NJ though. For 60 years it was mainly Polish and Italian immigrants and their descendants. Went overwhelmingly for Reagan both terms. In the late 80’s, however, there began to be an influx of immigrants from MX and Central America. Crime shot up, illegitimacy shot up, taxes shot up.

In the 2008 election my district went 90% for the Won. The Polish and Italian immigrants and their grandkids moved away ASAP when the crime rates went through the roof. Can’t blame them.

Even 911 in my town answered the phone in Spanish! And got snippy if you spoke English.

If Mexican immigrants were conservative, California would be a lock for the Republican party.

Forbes is a pro-immigrant publication. Of course they’re telling you what you want to hear. Reality tells us something else though.

Mexican immigrants overwhelmingly depend on public services to maintain their lifestyle and feed their increasing numbers of out of wedlock children. They’re not going to be voting for lower taxes anytime soon.

And they’re not social conservatives either. Their out of wedlock birth rate alone doesn’t support that theory. Their abortion rate is greater than whites as well. They also overwhelmingly support gay rights and gay marriage.

Believe what you want, reality will prove far different however.

As I said above. If Mexican immigrants were natural conservatives either (or and) socially and fiscally, California would be a lock for the Republican party and wouldn’t be x Billion in debt right now.

The facts in the Forbes article came from our Texas Party Chairman and I know him and he isn’t a liar, the facts are true as the numbers are true. The Texas Republican Party is growing at a steady rate due to his efforts at raising millions of dollars and spending it on a great plan with help from our Hispanic Republicans/Hispanic Republican office holders, and the State Democrat Party is not growing, even though the national Democrat Party has millions to spend in Texas - those are the facts.

New Jersey and other states are not Texas and you can’t compare historical happenings in those states and their present condition with what is happening in Texas now, in the present, not in the past.

Facts matter and the Texas Republican Party is growing and the Texas Democrat Party is not - that is a fact.

“As far as Hispanics go, we cannot force millions back to Mexico - that is impossible to do and not going to happen. “

Oh boy. Another “just give up” Republican.

Aren’t you inspiring.

What other laws do you find impossible to enforce besides immigration law?

Eisenhower managed to force millions of Mexicans to return home.

But then Ike was a patriot who wouldn’t sell out his country, unlike the conniving non-patriots of your sort who now pollute the GOP hierarchy.

The population growth rate will ultimately change the political landscape just by sheer numbers. Here is a projection of growth for Texas.

The only “fact” is that Texas is safe right now. What reality & demographics tell us is that Texas is going to fall sometime in the future. I’m not worried about 2014, or 2016 for that matter in Teaxs. After 2020 ALL bets are off IMO.

I’m writing this from my summer place in New Hampshire. You remember NH ? Used to be the most conservative state on the east coast by far....these days not so much. The conservaties are all mostly still here, but guess what ? Hundreds of thousands of people from MA, NY, NJ, Penn, CA moved here over the last 20 years & buried the local....it’s called demography & it’s destiny.

That’s what is going to happen to Texas down the road. Your state is being flooded as we speak.

That is a GOP establishment rah rah article that has no basis in fact

Hispanic vote in Texas is not trending GOP

Not in 2004 or 2008 or 2010 or 2012

Because of them the dems now own all major cities in Texas as well

Ted Cruz lost the Hispanic vote by 20 points

No one here disputes the importance of Texas

But there is no proof it is trending GOP

and reams of proof to the contrary

The GOPe view of this is a lie....don’t fall for it

Most here have finally woke up about the notion demographics is destiny

But it may be too late
